You know You’re in for something good when the cast of your movie comprises Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, Kevin Bacon, and the iconic Julia Roberts. That’s just the case in Netflix’s adaptation of Leave the World Behind, which just released its official trailer for the post-apocalyptic movie with plenty of mystery to go around.
Based on the book of the same name by Rumaan Alam, it tells the story of a family’s desperate attempt to survive a mysterious apocalypse. Roberts and Hawke’s characters are married and escape the city for a nice long weekend. And that gets turned on its head when two strangers (Ali and Myha’la Herrold) appear at their door, claiming this AirBnb is actually their house.
Things start spiraling out of control when strange occurrences begin to happen. Herds of deer visit the house, just staring. There’s also this weird ringing in the forest, a cruise ship that beaches itself, and a power outage that has taken basically everything down. Combine that with the paranoia Roberts character starts feeling for Ali’s character and his family, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Because Ali will defend himself and his family, as she should, leaving us wondering who will be left alive by the end of it.
