If you need a good laugh, female-driven ski comedy Weak Layers might be exactly what you’re looking for. And we’ve got the exclusive clip to prove it. We can confirm you don’t even need to be part of the culture to have at least one “can relate” sort of chuckle while watching this. Especially if you’re of a certain generation. And since the film’s now on VOD, you can even watch from the comfort of your own home. Here’s hoping it’s actually comfortable, though. (Watch the clip, and you’ll get what we’re saying here.)
So, what’s it all about? According to a press release from North American distributor Greenwich Entertainment, “Set in Lake Tahoe, the film follows three passionate and lovably rowdy local women on a quest to win a world-famous 72-hour short ski film competition. A progressive throwback to the cult classics, the film dissects modern, male-driven ski culture while championing the tight-knit local communities found in ski towns throughout the world. If ever there was an ode to mountain town life, this is it.”
Stars Katie Burrell, Chelsea Conwright, and Jadyn Wong play Cleo Brown and her two roommates. They’ve all recently been evicted, which means they need to win the prize money so they can get out of their temporary residence (an ex-boyfriend’s van) and into something a little more normal. Preferably with modern-day toilets …which, as you’ll see in our exclusive sneak peek, isn’t a given — not even for a couple grand a month. (Like we said: Relatable to our struggles. Especially when they start talking about Millennials and making money.)
We kind of feel like her hesitance is also part of that Millennial life. But maybe it’s just an “us” thing. Same goes for not seeing what the problem with all those chicken nuggets is…
In the clip below, Tina and Lucy (Conwright and Wong) are trying to convince Cleo to enter the film competition. But Cleo’s not entirely convinced — not right away, at least. And as far as we can tell, her reasons are totally solid. Who wants be an embarrassed loser, anyway?
