We’d like to say that we don’t understand how anyone could tell someone not to take a part in a movie, but the truth is, we do get it. We understand that everyone has an opinion about everything (us included).
John Cena, who we admit, we still have trouble calling an actor and not thinking of as a WWE supertstar, was advised against his cameo in the Barbie movie. The actor was advised against taking the role and he explained why on The Howard Stern show.
The actors team is committed to getting him roles and when the prospect of Barbie came up… well they weren’t too keen on the role. His schedule was very booked and this role seemed like a lot to fit in.
“Margot [Robbie] was like, ‘We’ll make you a mermaid. You’ll be in it for half a day.’ Yeah, sure. But I think the perspective from an agency standpoint was, ‘This is beneath you,’ which I get that,” Cena said when talking to Stern.
“But also to the agency’s credit, immediately they acquiesced.” He continued, “I was like, ‘No we’re going to do it.’”
We’re glad he did! The Barbie movie was fantastic and it wouldn’t have been the same without him.
