Every time when I go online, I can pretty much guarantee that I will see someone shaming someone. It feels like the world is excited to tell people that they are inferior or that they don’t add up. Especially in Hollywood. People are shamed for the way that they look, the clothes that they wear, their weight. It’s vicious. Seriously, it’s vicious.
Kate Winslet has been one of those actresses that has faced body shaming over the years. The actress was on the third hour of The Today Show and talked about body shaming and how it’s’ changed.
“You know, it’s really interesting how much [the industry] has changed,” she said when asked. “And I think about the moments I did have to kind of say, ‘Well, look, I’m going to be myself and I have curves and this is who I am.’”
She talked about how there was a lot of fat shaming back in the day. But she also said, “That has changed. And it’s changed because young women now, they’re born with a voice. They have a voice, they’re learning how to hang on to it, they stand up for themselves. They know that they matter. They count for something. They’re great together.”
It’s never okay to shame someone for the way the look or really for any reason. We’re so thankful that Kate has always championed women standing up for themselves.
