After almost a year of being off our screens, 9-1-1 finally returned this week with its seventh season. 9-1-1 7×01 “Abandon Ships” focused on the beginning of Athena and Bobby’s not-so-happy honeymoon while the rest of the 118 stayed back to do what they do best: help people who find themselves in dangerous, and awkward, situations. Let’s review.

Honeymoon from Hell
That’s how we would describe Athena and Bobby’s honeymoon. Athena didn’t want to go anyway because of a fear stemming from Poseidon, plus she was afraid that she wouldn’t have anything to talk about with Bobby (more on that later). We think it’s safe to say that she didn’t feel any better about this cruise after running into Norman and Lola. Having dinner with someone you arrested isn’t exactly our idea of a good time.
Later, Athena’s convinced that Norman killed Lola when she’s nowhere to be found. Bobby thinks she’s making this up to avoid being alone with him, but after seeing Norman with another woman, he finally realizes something’s not right. Things get even worse when Norman tells them what happened: Lola was kidnapped. And the kidnappers are coming on the ship.
So between the ship being taken over and the storm that’s brewing, this “vacation” is about to get a whole lot worse. We’re excited to see how Athena and Bobby handle this disaster. And we hope that after it’s over, they can maybe have a discussion about their feelings. We love Bobby and Athena, and we hate seeing Bobby feeling like his wife is avoiding him.

Keeping Relationships Interesting
Athena and Bobby were not the only ones having relationship problems this week. 9-1-1 7×01 “Abandon Ships” began with a plane crashing into a house inhabited by a couple who had been married for 30 years. They were full of resentment (although it was hilarious when the man said to tell his wife that he died!) which made Chim worry. He doesn’t want his relationship with Maddie to get stale, so he wants to date her. Listen, we’re all for date nights, but three a week? That sounds exhausting. Especially on top of planning a wedding. We’re glad he realized that while fancy dates are great every once in a while, just having dinner together is nice, too. And less stressful.
Christopher also struggled with relationships this week. He certainly turned into a “player”, as Buck said, over the hiatus. At first, we didn’t understand why he was acting like this, but after his conversation with Buck, we learned it stemmed from his mom leaving. That broke our hearts. We understand how Christopher’s mom leaving made him not feel loved and question everything about women. But hopefully having his mom’s letter will help him going forward.
And can we just say that Eddie and Buck really stepped up for him this week? They saw there was a problem, talked to Chris to figure out what was going on, and worked on a way to help. It’s so refreshing to see men act this way toward kids on TV.

Other Thoughts:
- Hen and Chim’s friendship continues to be one of the best parts of the show. We also love Maddie and Josh’s friendship. Everyone needs someone at work they can talk to.
- So much for Buck’s relationship with Natalia. We can’t believe they already broke up.
- Did anyone else think the cruise director was acting really weird? He’s definitely up to something.
- The hot tub scene was very awkward. And we can’t believe Eddie’s advice about imagining turning into jello worked. And Buck’s comments afterward were hilarious.
- Buck: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a man turn a woman off with such skill. Eddie: “It’s a gift”
Next week’s 9-1-1 continues with the honeymoon that just keeps getting worse. And we can’t wait to see what else happens.
