We know that when there is an existing IP, it is sometimes cheaper for Hollywood to just remake that versus purchasing and nurturing a new IP. We also know that some shows of the past – their actors claim to fame is that IP and they aren’t willing to let it go.
We said what we said.
And well, when it comes to Melrose Place, we’re going to go with it is a little bit of both. Three Melrose Place original cast members, Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga, are joining together for a followup to the 1990s staple.
We’re just over here shaking our heads and asking for this not to happen.
The series would provide updates on the original characters, one who apparently will not be alive. Now we’re going to admit, that piques our interest, but also makes us cringe. The cast would reunite to honor this character and all the drama of the old days would reignite. The past would be there, but the characters would have a modern perspective and we’d get to see all of the drama of their current lives.
But we’ll pass.
In addition to Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga, some of the original cast includes Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, Doug Savant, Grant Show, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Rob Estes, Brooke Langton, Lisa Rinna, Kristin Davis and Alyssa Milano.
Look, we’re going to admit that we’d love something on television besides procedurals and reality television. But if we’re going to try and do something more contemporary, can we please just do like a revival of One Tree Hill? That’s the only IP that we’d want a more modern, where are the characters years later look at.
Otherwise, meh. Buy something new Hollywood.
