Chicago Fire 12×12 “Under Pressure” is the penultimate episode of this shortened season, and you’d think it would give us some sort of hint as to where the show is going with some of these storylines. But of course it doesn’t. That would be asking for too much. Instead, we have a bunch of pictures that tell us very little, except that Squad seems to be running some drills and Violet and her new partner seem to be having some issues.
And Stella is nowhere to be found! Hopefully, only in the pictures, though there is the possibility that she won’t be in the episode …her Truck did get stolen, and it kinda blew up. Maybe she gets to take a day off?

Lawyer. Writer. Editor. Former Senior Editor in charge of Features, Lists, and News at CBR. Freelancer at TV Guide & Remezcla. Eternal optimist. Fangirl since the dawn of time. Hates the color yellow, olives and cigarettes. Has a recurring nightmare where she’s forced to choose between sports and books. Falls in love with fictional characters.
I think we kind of know where things are going. Unfortunately, some of it comes from news outside the show. We know Emmon Walker is going to be a recurring character going forward. I thought it was obvious after Ritter over heard the new truck member’s phone call that he was working for Chief Robinson and her allies. Robinson tried opposing Boden by confronting him, now she is trying to do so by getting someone to sabotage him. This will cause Boden to seek and become Deputy Commissioner.
We also know that Taylor Kinney has been confirmed for this season only and that he may have been “up in the air” about how long he intends to stay as a series regular. I believe and I am speculating here, that Kinney will stay for at least next season as a series regular. As a result, they needed to “pump the breaks” on Cruz becoming a Lieutenant- thus his sudden marital issues. Gives Cruz a reason to maintain the status quo and not take on any more responsibilities just yet. As far as who will become officer in charge, I have a bit of an outside the box prediction. They promote Herman to Captain. Severide has said he doesn’t want it and Stella has less experience than Herman as a firefighter and as a Lieutenant. Also, One Chicago is doing cut backs so adding a new cast member seems unlikely, though they could do that. If Herman is a Captain and Officer in charge, Engine 51 can go back to how it was portrayed in seasons 1-6, by being in the background. This is also insurance should Taylor Kinney want to leave after next season or become a recurring character. Ritter joins Truck on the open spot.
