August is traditionally a pretty thin month for TV viewing. We’re at the end of summer shows, but not yet into fall TV. Even in the age of streaming, August can still be a little light. The week of August 5 definitely falls into that category, but there are still some great options to check out! We’ve got the final week of the Paris Olympics, plus the return of two hotly-anticipated, big-name shows. Here’s what we’ll be watching during the week of August 5!
Week of August 5: 2024 Summer Olympics

The last week of the Olympics is packed with plenty of competition! The basketball and soccer tournaments headline the week, along with diving, track and field, and more marquee events. There are plenty of the “quirkier” sports too, including synchronized swimming, table tennis, climbing, and others. It all wraps up with the closing ceremonies, which pass the torch to Los Angeles for 2028!

Thursday, August 8: The Umbrella Academy Season 4

It’s almost the end of the road for our beloved Hargreeves family, with a six-episode final season. After last season’s finale, the siblings’ timeline has reset, and their powers are gone. Their father is alive and pulling strings, while the mysterious Keepers prod at reality. It’s up to the Umbrella Academy, one last time, to save the day.

Thursday, August 8: Evil Episode 12

The second of Evil‘s “bonus” episodes (or mini-Season 5) brings us ever closer to the finale. In the week of August 5, we inch towards a resolution for Kristen, David, Ben, and company. The Evil team has been pretty good about keeping spoilers — and even previews! — under wraps ahead of time, so we’re mostly going into the final stretch blind. We’ll be on the edge of our seats!

Friday, August 9: Blue Ribbon Baking Championship
Need a homespun baking show to tide you over until the next GBBO season? This cozy competition, debuting the week of August 5, has you covered. Hosts Sandra Lee and Jason Biggs preside over a contest between 10 champion state fair bakers from around the country. The bakers will compete for $100,000, plus a giant blue ribbon, of course. Lee is joined on the judging panel by former White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and award-winning baker Bryan Ford.

Sunday, August 11: Industry Season 3

Already missing House of the Dragon? Don’t worry, there’s another prestige drama about brutal betrayals — this one set in the world of high finance! Three of our high-flying bankers get drawn into the IPO of a buzzy green tech company, while others forge unlikely paths and alliances. The stakes are high; the drama is (always) higher.
