On Monday, What’s on Netflix announced the release date for Season two of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology Monster. So, we figured that a teaser would not be far behind. As predicted, Netflix has just dropped the official teaser trailer for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
Based on a true story, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, will follow the case of the real-life brothers who were convicted in 1996 for the murders of their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menendez. “While the prosecution argued they were seeking to inherit their family fortune, the brothers claimed – and remain adamant to this day, as they serve life sentences without the possibility of parole – that their actions stemmed out of fear from a lifetime of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of their parents.”
From what we now know, the series will dive into the historic case. So, as we previously reported, we will definitely be seeing a lot of the trial re-enacted. For those who know the story, and remember it, the trial was tough to watch. And if you’ve seen the first season of Monster, which was all about the serial killer Dahmer and his victims, we expect that this series will be quite dark as well.
The teaser for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story was only about 30 seconds or so, but it already had our hearts racing. And if we’re being honest, we got chills. That’s to be expected, though, especially when you think about the fact that this is based on something that actually happened. That realism only adds to the fear and anxiety watching something like this can induce.
In the teaser, we see the Menendez house at night. A car pulls up to the driveway as the words “On August 20, 1989 Lyle and Erik Menendez murdered their parents“ run across the screen. We then see the back of both Lyle and Erik heavily breathing, as they walk up to the front door and then to the living room, shotguns in hand. The teaser ends with the sounds of shots being fired.
