There is nothing better than nostalgia. It somehow brings us back to life and reminds us of the good times in life. They (don’t ask who they are, I googled the line and it doesn’t say, so 🤷🏻♀️) say that you can never go home again, but we beg to differ. We feel like sometimes a TV show can do just that, bring you home.
And yes, we’ve grown up, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t be watching Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. After all, our love for Wizards of Waverly Place is strong and we feel like this will be something that brings us home. It was definitely like coming home for stars David Henrie and Selena Gomez.
While on the red carpet for Selena’s show, Only Murders in the Building, the two spoke about the upcoming Wizards Beyond Waverly Place series.
“It felt like I was home again,” Selena told Variety‘s Marc Malkin. “I’m so happy I got to bring back this childhood gift that I was given to new little ones out there.”
Little ones and big ones Selena, because make no mistake, we’re excited about this. This is a gift for us also.
David Henrie was also on the red carpet and talked about how it was actually him and Selena who came up with making the show. He said, “Selena and I and my wife spent so much time over the years drinking wine and talking about where the characters would be, we looked at each other at one point and said, ‘I think we have a show. I think we should go talk to Disney about this.’ And we did. It took years of development to get it exactly where it needed to be.”
“It came out of a place love,” he added. “The number one thing Selena gets asked about even till today is ‘Wizards.’ It’s a show that meant a lot to a lot of people.”
Now who is behind the sequel/reboot/new series? Well, they’re the team behind another one, Ravens Home (which has done exceptionally well for the channel) – Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas. Like us, you probably have so many questions. Like you know – what could a sequel possibly be about?
The sequel picks up, “after a mysterious incident at WizTech, where an adult Justin Russo has left his wizard powers behind, opting for a normal, human life with his wife (Gianopulos) and two sons (one of whom will be played by Thiele). But he gets a surprise when a powerful young wizard (Brown) in need of training shows up at his door… and Justin must embrace his past to ensure the future of the Wizard World.”
David Henrie is joined by Janice LeAnn Brown, Taylor Cora, Alkaio Thiele, and Mimi Gianopulos.
In addition to Elinoff and Thomas – Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Gary Marsh, and Andy Fickman will be EP’s on the project.
The original series aired on the Disney Channel for four seasons between 2007 and 2012 and also sparked the Disney Channel original movie Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie.
The show will premiere sometime this year. We can’t wait!
