This season is something that I don’t seem to be prepared for. It’s not that it’s a bad thing to be taken off guard. It’s a good thing. But Tell Me Lies has genuinely started to snatch my wig at every turn and I am standing up and applauding that.
While most in the previous episodes 2015 has been living in the rehersal dinner or whatever era, we’re now at the bachelor/bachelorette party. Only Evan and Bree would think that it’s a good idea to throw a joint one. Then again, maybe it is and I am just weird. It’s a possibility and as we all know, Bree thinks everyone is weird.
Lucy needs to loosen up though and I think that what we see at the party they are all at tonight is that we haven’t even hit the tip of the iceberg with what happened. We do know that it had to have been really messed up and I am going to throw a theory about Lucy and Lydia out there. I think that the two of them stopped talking because of Chris and what he did to Pippa. And I think that what he did to Pippa was so inexcusable and it’ll be awhile before we know exactly what it was.
BUT – my theory is that he drugged her and took pictures of her half naked and the football team is going to do something with them. And if that is the case – he deserves whatever he gets.
Lucy brings Max to the party and I think that is in part to show that she’s moved on. She has – I do believe that. What I also believe is that she has PTSD from this group of friends. They all do.
And it also slapped me like a ton of bricks – the person that Pippa is with is Diana? HOLY MOLY I did not see that coming.
But then we have to go back to college and see where it all started.
LUCY
You ever have a character that you both love and hate? This is the way that I am starting to feel with Lucy. It’s like I want to see her succeed, but she’s in her own way.
When the show opens and it’s years later and she’s still worried about Stephen, I am worried for her. She needs to grow up and move on. But the thing with her is that she doesn’t seem really capable of doing that right now. Or ever.
Stephen isn’t a good person. She needs to let it go and she needs to get help and talk to someone.
Lucy is in fear of everything because she doesn’t ever really make smart choices. Yes, I said that. But she has a track record of falling back into wrong choice after wrong choice. So at what moment are we supposed to believe in who she is? That she’s grown?
She lets Stephen affect her and she shows reactions. She’s giving him what he wants. The two won’t stop messing with each other and it’s like life would be a lot easier if you would just stop.
The most freeing thing that she did was after exposing what Stephen did last year to Diana — realizing that this isn’t her issue. Now lets hope she remembers that as she continues to do stupid things.

BREE
This season, so far, my favorite character has got to be Bree. She’s the one who seems to be changing the most and her character growth is kind of a beautiful thing to watch. Some characters feel like they will be the punching bag or the victim in each episode — we thought that would be Bree.
Mistakes, challenges, and changes – it’s all left open to interpretation. We all make our choices and our decisions about what makes sense to us. As a viewer, I can’t even imagine the struggle that writers experience, trying to decide the path of a character. With Bree, it has to be a journey for the writers to decide how to take Brees path.
I say this because viewers are very judgemental. I am one that is going to over analyze everything about a character. Why? I think it’s because as a viewer, when I connect with a show, I know that it is going to change me. I am going to feel like I am watching my friends.
Bree is that friend that you want to protect, but she’s showing that she needs that protection.
The reality of this show is that I am rooting for Bree and Oliver. Hell, the moments between them, I am like talk about sexual tension. There is nothing about this show that is not toxic and that relationship is absolutely toxic.
But, when it comes down to these two having sex – it was actually really beautifully shot. A lot of the sex scenes on this show, are primal or disengaging. But there was something about this one that felt different.
Let me say this is the weirdest thing to talk about. But I think that it’s important to point out because I feel like it shows the evolution of the show.
Now, I am not for cheating, but I do have to say that the way Oliver (Tom Ellis) asks if it’s okay — and makes sure that he has consent — I applauded. It was something you don’t see a lot of.
Fully aware that this relationship between Bree and Oliver won’t end well, but it doesn’t stop me from cheering for them, now.
You see – there is a reason that I write a review after each episode, before I watch the next – and that’s so I write my immediate reaction without knowing what is going to happen. Because the next episode could change everything.
So living in the here and now, I am cheering these two on.

PIPPA
Pippa has gone through something and I don’t think that even she knows what it is. What I do think is that scares her and she blames herself. She doesn’t want to be embarrassed and feel stupid. I wish that she knew that she was none of those things, but I also understand that no one can tell her how to be.
What she wants is to feel normal – whatever that is.
I do admire that in this episode Pippa is finding strength to stand up for herself and use her voice. She may not want to be open with her friends as of yet, but I do hope that she finds a way to do that.
Pippa finding ways to stand up for herself throughout this episode is something I admire, because I know for her that takes a lot. But the best was and will always be her telling Wrigley off.
Hearts break all the time. It’s a fact of life. But making someone feel like they deserve to be put down because of it – not cool Wrigley. I believe that Pippa speaking her mind is a sign of her growth.
And her having a conversation with Wrigley – which was awkward – was something I never thought that I would see.
One reason that I love the way that Pippa is in these episodes is that she is someone that you want to know, but you just know that she’s not going to give you anything. She’s like an onion and you have to peel away the layers. Whatever lies under those layers is something that you have to work through to get to.
But the mystery of who Pippa is – I think that the show does well. You see, in life and friendships, you’re not always going to get all the answers. But when you get a character that you can see yourself in, I think that is important. The character of Pippa is one that a lot of people can see themselves in and that’s beautiful.
We need to give more credit to characters like Pippa and watching her grow. The thing is, I do feel like she’s on the verge of exploding.
And when she does, everything in this group will change.

DIANA
I have to admit that I am starting to like Diana more and more. I like her because I think she’s waking up and she sees that Stephen is beneath her. The drama is beneath her. I actually do believe that Diana has a caring heart.
When Pippa finally stands up to the football players, I didn’t expect Diana to stand up to Wrigley on Pippa’s behalf also. After all, she had just gone to check on Pippa and she was treated like trash.
But, it doesn’t stop Diana from doing what is right and I can respect that.
However, I do worry about what Diana thinks that she is worthy of or that she needs to be defined by a man. She treats her Mom like she is defined by her father. As much as that angers me, I also get it because in 2007 – well it was a different time. Just because I get it, doesn’t mean I like it or endorse it.
I feel bad for her though, because she’s caught in the game of cat and mouse between Stephen and Lucy. She doesn’t see the red flags and that she needs to run. Instead she’s willing to put up with everything. She’s being manipulated by Stephen and no one can change her mind or make her see that he’s not good for her.
Even when Lucy tells her the truth about Stephen, she doesn’t want to believe it. Diana doesn’t want to be wrong.
I think that it’s of the utmost importance that we are seeing a character like her. She’s a walking tale of what not to do and who not to be. This show has painted Diana as an angry woman, but I don’t necessarily believe that defines her. I think that every time she’s gotten angry it has been warranted.
And so I am loving seeing her rise above. But then the ending and the things she does, I am worried and scared for who she is becoming.
LUCY AND LEO
The smartest thing that Lucy ever did was tell Diana the truth about what was happening with Stephen. When Diana doesn’t believe her, the smartest thing that she does is walk away and realize this isn’t her issue anymore.
I didn’t know where she would go after it was all over – but I didn’t expect her to show up at his door and be willing to listen. I didn’t think that she would be willing to hear him about. She may not understand his anger issues, but she’s not exactly been up front and allowed him to understand her either.
While Leo isn’t forever, I do think that he’s someone that can teach her to look outside the comfort zone she’s in. She’s used to someone being messed up, but not trying to fix themselves. Leo is working on himself and what I do love about showing this is that we’re seeing people wanting to do better and being open about their shortcomings and thats an important thing to see.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Look, house sitting for the win.
- I don’t know why Oliver had to mention feeding the cat.
- The smoking with a friend scene – I feel that conversation. Awkward and yet, informative. Friendship is everything.
- The Chris scene – I can’t even. I want to smack him, but something definitely happened.
- Wrigley is never going to grow up
- I think that Wrigley is trash right now.
- I would let Tom Ellis do anything to me. Lord he’s hot.
- I hate the football team.
- Diana running to have sex with Stephen, knowing she partially believes Lucy. Gross.
- Stephen is a manipulative jerk and I wish he would go away.
- Stephen acting like he cares about Lucy’s well being. Please. Big joke.
