The thing I love the most about television is that it can surprise you. This episode of The Chicken Sisters definitely surprised me. I thought that it was going to be an episode that was solely about sisters and their rivalry. It definitely was about so much more than that and I loved that it surprised me.
Amanda and Mae, how you’ve shocked me.
We’ll get there though.
The two sisters did things that they can’t come back from. If they are able to, I will be shocked. I mean REALLY SHOCKED.
If you have a sister, or any sibling really, you can definitely understand what it is like to fight with a sibling. Hopefully you don’t know the agony of that pain being the only thing that you can feel, because the fights have gone on too long. For Amanda and Mae – their jealousy and pain – it’s about missing family and also disliking each other for the paths that they have taken. It’s a moment where they have to sit and look at why they feel the way that they do.
I guess that they have a lot of the past to reckon with.
This episode was a lot about finding your space and truth. It was a lot about figuring out who you are, what you want, and well… this da** TV show producing the hell out of you.

THE SIGN
Mae doesn’t want to admit how bad her sister painting over her sign hurts, but it does. The sign at Mimi’s was the last part of her that was at the place. Marrying Frank was a choice that she made, but it cost her more than she thought that it would.
You see, family is supposed to be an unconditional love. It’s supposed to be the relationship in life that doesn’t waver. But it is complicated.
Mae has so many secrets that no one knows about, because she doesn’t tell anyone. The thing is though, I don’t even think that Mae can keep up with all of her lies and deceptions. While so many of us can relate to wanting a different life, I think that Mae has taken it to an extreme.
She’s not mad – IMO – at Amanda. She’s mad at herself. Mae wanted to keep the whole working at Donkey’s to herself, but like who cares. We’ve all had a bad job. We’ve all had something that we don’t want to admit that we’ve done. But did it pay bills? Yes. So whatever.
There is no shame in a hards days work.
Amanda is mad because her sister and her aren’t close. She’s mad because there is a divide. Work harder then to bridge that gap Amanda. Forgiveness isn’t easy, but if it’s upsetting you this much – WORK IT OUT. Being hurt because your sister is welcomed home and you are disowned – get it. HOWEVER, you need to work to fix it.
The new sign is different and good on Kenneth for fixing it. Good on Gus for making sure that Amanda knows it wasn’t her.
But guys – there are bigger things at play here. FIX YOUR S***!

THE “JOKES”
I get it – everyone wants to win Kitchen Clash. Everyone needs the money. Times are hard for everyone, I get it. I think though, the pranks are taking it a bit too far.
While I do like the bonding that is going on between Frank and Amanda – I also think that they are all being overly produced. Sabrina Skye is trying to make good television and for that I am not mad. But she is messing with peoples lives here and it’s going to hurt a lot more for them than the need for money.
Amanda playing a “prank” on her Mom and sabotaging the sweet tea, was just wrong. Sabrina encouraged this crap for ratings. She didn’t think about the consequences of what she’s doing to family.
Gus’ whole lunch rush leaves when the tea is bad. Mimi’s is not doing great and Gus needed that money. So Mae, protecting her Mom, decides she’s going to pay Amanda back by buying all of the chicken so that Frannies has none.
This results in Nancy finding out about it and having to buy chicken from Mimi’s at 30% above the price that was paid for it. I think though that the most heartbreaking thing in this moment though was seeing Gus’ face as Nancy acted like she was Amandas Mom. She was demanding that Amanda apologize, and Amanda didn’t want to hear that.
Everyone is suffering in some way because of this feud and the rift between these sisters.
And quite honestly, everyone is suffering because of this show.

THE NEED FOR A PHONE
What I do hate about this show is using the kids to manipulate. Okay, okay, hate is a strong word, but I don’t like it. Frankie and Linzey are teenagers and they are going to make their mistakes. They are going to do their thing.
But using them for this feud and using them to make this show more dramatic isn’t okay.
Sabrina Skye, I am looking at you.
In order for her daughter to get her phone back, she tells her that she needs to spend time with Frankie. Linzey does it and preys on Frankies dreams to make it seem like they are becoming friends.
I don’t like it.
When you’re messing with peoples lives for a television show – I get the drama of it. However, its a kid so I am hesitant.
Frankie is going to think that they are friends and trust in that. It’s just horrible that Sabrina decides to produce by using her daughter and Frankie.

THE PLAQUE
Nancy may not be a producer on the show, but she sure knows how to produce her kid. It’s kinda messed up and it’s kind of impressive. Then again, growing up in a small town, I know that the Mama’s know what it takes to get things done.
She gives Frank Jr a plaque that his father had. She preys on his emotions to get him to clean himself up.
Everyone wants to win this show and no one can blame them. After all, $100K is a lot of money. A LOT. I would not look away from that. But, if someone doesn’t want to change, then you can’t change them. It won’t last.
But I did love seeing Frank Jr growing. I think that growth is so important in shows like this, but I think that for Frank Jr, it’s not sustainable unless he addresses the source of the issues he’s having.
Him and Amanda are not happy. I think that they love each other, but I don’t know that they are in love with each other. He’s trying, but then all of the sudden, he’s like no. I am not going to do this.
And he turns to beer.

THE KISS
We can all agree that there is heat between Amanda and Sergio. He’s not afraid to call her out, but he’s also accepting of who she is. There is an attraction there and we can all feel it.
But I am not convinced that for Amanda, it’s not about the fact that someone finds her attractive. I am not convinced that she’s not just looking for that heat of desire. I am not convinced that she’s also just not excited by someone new.
When she breaks into Mimi’s and starts destroying things, I feel bad for her. I think that she’s mad because of her Mom and sister being close and feeling left out. Didn’t expect Sergio to feel the same way when he catches her.
And for the first time we see Amanda start to break. She talks about how she’s had to be good her entire life and when Sergio tell her to not be then – I screamed. Sir, applause is all yours. You sexy beast.
I do not condone cheating – but when Amanda kisses Sergio and he lifts her on the table, I may have put my hand over my heart and been like well, okay then sir – get yours. And also in the same breathe, Hallmark, I am both shocked and thrilled by these choices.
Of course Nancy has to see the entire thing.
Ugh, this can’t be good.
