There is nothing about Tell Me Lies that doesn’t make me think about how messy I am, because these kids are really a hot mess. Well, they are and so are some of the older people – looking at you Oliver. Cause Oliver, is controlling, delulu and manipulative. Like seriously, delulu.
It’s Halloween time at Baird and that seems to be bringing out all the crazy. Not that these characters aren’t always operating at a level of 10 on the WTF scale. Halloween seems like the perfect time to disguise their lifestyles of bad decisions and manipulations.
But man, jaw on the floor this episode, because in all of their wants to not be wrong about the things in life, they are willing to sacrifice anyone. They aren’t worried about who they will hurt. And wow, that’s beyond disgusting.

LUCY
Lucy is excited because her bestie is coming to visit. Now, we all know that there are moments in life that can change everything and this will be a trip that definitely changes everything for them.
If I was Lucy, I would be so afraid of my bestie coming. It’s not because I have anything to hide, but it’s because all of her friends and her live life based on lies. They all live this life that is like a house of cards waiting to fall down.
For Lucy, her life is a house of cards and in my opinion, that is based on her relationship with Steven. The two are so damn toxic and it’s so disgusting to watch them. Both need to get out of each other’s orbit and well, they aren’t doing that.
I hate that my toxic trait is loving the toxicity of this show. That being said though, Lydia is the part of this episode that starts to make all the cards fall down.
At a Halloween party, she decides that she’s going confront Steven. Now, she should have let that go, but Lydia thinks that she’s doing what a best friend should do. Sometimes though the best thing you can do for your bestie is keep your mouth shut.
And so here we are, Lydia confronting Steven in front of his sister who is in town for the weekend. She’s oblivious to what is going on because she thinks that her brother hangs the moon. So for her, protecting her brother is the most important thing to her. When Diana takes Stevens’s side and says that Lucy basically stalked him, she feels the need to go and protect her brother.
But when Lucy hears her say that she basically stalked Steven – Lucy gets angry. She gets so angry, that she goes off and tells her what a piece of crap her brother is. It visibly shakes her and I have to admit that this is one of the times that I agree with Diana. What is wrong with Lucy?
I feel like Lucy doesn’t seem to understand that there is a line and she and Steven seem to keep crossing it. That line is going to affect everyone around them.
Of course, this is going to make Steven mad and he’s going to be out for revenge. I do think that his sister is the one person that he loves wholeheartedly and will do anything to protect. So when Lucy puts him in a situation where she’s the one person that he can’t – he’s going to fire back.
Neither one is going to take responsibility for this. They will defer the blame to others, rather than admit that the best course of action is to avoid each other wholeheartedly.
Steven is going to come for Lucy. He’s going to hit her where it hurts and that for Lucy is her friends. They are her family. He’ll out her for everything that she’s done and all the mistakes that she told him about.
Lucy didn’t learn from her year with Steven – it feels like. And then again, I will believe that she learned everything.
The problem is that no one around her learned anything.

BREE
TBH, I thought that I would love Bree and Oliver, and for a hot second, I did. Now, I do not. Consider me indecisive. But it’s their weekend away that changes everything.
Oliver takes her to a hotel for the weekend and Bree is really excited. I get that. Who wouldn’t be excited to be wanted? If someone tells you that doesn’t matter to them, that person is a liar.
It’s seeing them away and spending the weekend together that I notice that Oliver is all about control. He wants someone that he can control, who will listen and will think highly of him. What he doesn’t get is that he’s so in the wrong here! He’s only worried about his feelings and he’s preying off Bree’s insecurities. He puts everyone around her down, leaving her doubting others and doubting herself.
Oliver isn’t a good guy. He’s hot and let’s face it – distracted by the hot – we’ve let that be the reason that we’ve overlooked a lot. BUT, it’s when they are away at the hotel and the bartender tells him to take her someplace she won’t get carded that I got the ick.
I got the ick because he made out with her as a big eff you to the bartender. And then when it’s always about him versus her? Na, I am good. He’s placing Bree’s importance based on what he can get out of it, not on her.
He’s irritated me, and I think he’s gross.

PIPPA
The thing that I admire about Pippa is she is always trying to move forward and move on. BUT, just because she is, doesn’t mean that others are. Pippa is holding everything that happened with Chris inside herself and she’s going to break. It’s only a matter of how long it takes everyone to notice what is really going on.
But what I loved about this episode is you can really see the groundwork for a relationship between Pippa and Diana.
Now, I didn’t really ever think about all of the hints that have been dropped, but I think that is because this show is so great at distractions. It shows you the pretty and then it shows you the chaos.
Diana and Pippa are both going through a lot, but I think that they need each other. We keep seeing that. We keep seeing the two of them have to face their secrets. We keep seeing them both have to come face to face with the people that hurt them and I believe that facing that is something that will be hard for both of them.
When Pippa has to keep seeing Chris – I keep thinking that at some point she is going to tell us what she remembers. Because I do think she remembers more. However, what she decides to divulge on her own timetable – we think is fair. Pippa has to put her life in order in the way that she feels the need to. No one can really argue with that.
What I also loved so much was that Wrigley was there for Pippa too. She didn’t do anything but try to love him, and they may not be the best at doing that with each other, but they did love each other.
Wrigley and Pippa have to find a way to forgiveness before they both can truly move forward. I hope they find a way to forgive themselves for the mistakes that they have made in their lives.

STEVEN
If you ever want to learn about the type of men to not date – watch this show – Steven is a case study. He’ll show you what type of red flags to look out for. Cause the man is a walking red flag.
He passed his LSAT, which hey, okay. Good on him. Diana says that she didn’t, but I don’t believe that. If anything, I believe that she has passed, but saying she hasn’t feels like her only chance to get away from Steven. Breaking up with him doesn’t seem like the easiest thing to do, because he will make her life miserable.
And what does that get her?
Hell.
Steven is about himself. Steven doesn’t care about anyone but himself (and his sister – I think he cares about her). Diana will be collateral damage. He doesn’t care. He’s seen her as a means to an end.
If the two were able to go to law school together, he would have done whatever to just keep her so that her Dad would give him a job. He’s about himself.
When Lucy tells his sister what a douche he is, we all know that he’s coming for revenge. The voicemail that he leaves her is disgusting. The way that he tells Lydia the things that she’s said is disgusting. Steven is a selfish piece of c*** and I personally have never disliked a character so much.
But also, I can’t look away.
I think that’s the weird thing about life, we have characters that we despise, but we’re obsessed with their every move. It’s art imitating life and I think that we all know that.
Steven doesn’t think that he’ll ever really push back, but that’s naive. Steven is going to do everything that he can though when pushed back. But it’s his house of cards and you can only keep them floating for so long.
I think that Lucy sending his sister his voicemail wasn’t a smart move. It was naive. He’s going to work harder to destroy her now.
This is about to get intense.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Finding out that Chris raped one of Diana’s sorority sisters – I can’t imagine what everyone is thinking. I get Lydia wanting to stick up for her brother, but when your brother is the scum of the earth, he’s the scum of the earth.
- Lucy saying to Lydia that she can’t say that the girl is wrong about her brother, because she wasn’t there, is one of the most responsible things that Lucy has ever done.
- Wrigley and Pippa telling each other the truth is everything that I never knew that I needed.
