We’re back! In High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode’ Morgan takes the case they’re investigating personally and that puts her in conflict with Karadec once again. Although, when push comes to shove, they show that they’re true partners. Ready?

The Past Comes Back When You Least Expect It
As we discussed in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 preview, when something happens to a child everything seems to feel worse, but for Morgan, the case affects her for more reasons than that. In High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode’ Morgan sees herself reflected in this woman desperate to find her children. She also has two children and can’t bear for something to happen to them, Morgan puts herself in this woman’s shoes and needs to help her, whatever it takes.
Also, these children have lost their father and she knows how that feels, how it feels to have to raise two children alone and for them to resent the absence of their father. So it was inevitable for Morgan to get more involved in this case. It’s personal to her, especially when the team looks at the possibility that the children’s mother is a suspect.
Morgan can’t believe the team would do that on High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode.’ While Morgan sees a woman desperate to find her children and for someone to trust and believe her, the team sees a potential suspect. And Morgan sees herself projected into this woman. She knows how it feels when no one believes you, when everyone chooses to believe anyone else over you, Morgan knows how it feels to not have anyone listen to you. That’s what happened to her when Roman disappeared.
Morgan was always sure that Roman hadn’t just disappeared and abandoned her and Ava. Morgan knew something serious had happened to him, but no one listened to her, and no one believed her. And now this woman on the case is going through the same thing and Morgan isn’t willing to leave her alone, just like she was left. If she has to find the truth alone, she will.
This puts her directly at odds with Karadec and her boss in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode’ who argue that as cops, they must consider all possibilities. And Morgan’s disappointment with them… reverberates throughout. The truth is that they both have a point here. As cops, they must contemplate everything and follow the leads, wherever they lead, even if they go in a direction they don’t like. That’s what a good cop does and that’s exactly what no one did with Roman’s case.
However, if everyone goes to sleep and no one follows up on the case, no one is looking for those kids and they may really be in danger. Morgan can’t just go to sleep like nothing happened. Yeah, Morgan isn’t being objective with the case but that only drives her further to find out the truth.
True Partners in Crime in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode’
Continuing with the good rapport Morgan and Karadec have after what happened in High Potential Episode 3, he tries to get close to her and find out what’s going on because he knows something is up. But he can’t. Morgan is too upset, too closed off, and defensive for Karadec to get anything done. But it’s all a facade.
When push comes to shove in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4 ‘Survival Mode’ and Morgan has to make a risky move, she trusts Karadec to have her back. She trusts him with her life and those kids’ lives. She trusts him not to give her away and just be there to support her. And that’s just what Karadec does. Even when nothing goes the way it should, he makes sure to make it clear that this was his call, his decision, and Morgan didn’t force him into anything, he went there without backup because he decided to.
Karadec thanks her for that trust. At the same time, she thanks him for supporting her. Knowing how Karadec is, Morgan doubted for a moment if he would do it, but he did, he was her partner. Little by little, they are beginning not only to find a common ground to be able to work together but to trust each other as true partners. That’s beautiful.
And that last detail in which he puts the badge on Morgan is the chef’s kiss. That badge means Morgan officially belongs to the team, to feels that she belongs for the first time in her life. And Karadec wasn´t sure that Morgan had to wear that badge, everything seemed too definitive if she did. But he takes that badge back for her and puts it back around her neck… because all he wants is to continue being her partner. Always.
