Soap Opera fans get excited because Beyond the Gates has finally announced a release date. The CBS daytime drama will hit our TV screens in February 2025, and we are beyond (yes, pun intended) excited about that.
For those not in the know, Beyond the Gates focuses on the affluent Black family, the Duprees, who live in a Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C. This is the first Soap Opera in 35 years that features a Black family in the forefront. That is a massive deal for Black women who watch Soap Operas, especially because Black women represent the highest demographic of Soap Opera watchers. Yet, we remain the most underrepresented in all of those that remain (General Hospital, Days of Our Lives, and The Bold and The Beautiful) on TV/Streaming Services.
Beyond the Gates is currently in production in Atlanta. As mentioned, Beyond the Gates stars Tamara Tunie, Daphnee Duplaix, and Karla Mosley. In addition to these three ladies who we wrote on a few months ago, the series also stars Clifton Davis, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad and Arielle Prepetit.
Tunie, Davis, Duplaix, and Mosely took to Beyond the Gates’s official Instagram account to share the announcement.
Beyond the Gates will premiere on February 24 and air from 2 to 3 PM ET/1 to 2 PM PT on CBS. The series will also be available to stream via Paramount+. This time slot should allow for healthy competition in the Soap Opera arena. And that’s great because the Soap genre needs something to shake and wake them up. Representation matters, and it’s time the Soaps recognized that. As a Black woman who loves soap operas, I hope Beyond the Gates will succeed and make a major impact.
