The end of the year is almost upon us! The week of December 2 is a very merry way to start the last month of 2024. Along with beloved holiday specials (both old and new), we’ve also got a new Star Wars series on the horizon, a spy thriller, and more! Here’s what to watch in the week ahead.
Monday, December 2: Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Series Premiere

Sometimes, it’s good to remember that Star Wars isn’t for grownups to fight about — it’s also for kids. This new series skews younger again, following a quartet of children who make a shocking discovery. They’ll face plenty of dangerous obstacles on their quest to get back home. The first two episodes drop the week of December 2, followed by weekly Tuesday releases.

Thursday, December 5: Black Doves

Period drama mainstays Keira Knightley and Ben Whishaw tackle a different kind of story as old friends deep in the espionage world. Knightley plays Helen, a spy who’s been leaking her politician husband’s secrets. When her lover is murdered, her old friend Sam (Whishaw) — an assassin himself — comes out of retirement to protect her and help her solve the case.

Thursday, December 5: How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Frosty the Snowman

It’s a holiday animation doubleheader on NBC the week of December 2! The beloved Grinch and Frosty animated specials are time-honored Christmas traditions. This year, NBC is airing them back-to-back. Let yourself feel like a kid again with these sweetly goofy, heartfelt stories. And, yes, the songs will get stuck in your head until New Year’s.

Friday, December 6: Private Princess Christmas

I don’t know about you, but I’m loving how Hallmark is using more Broadway actors in their movies! This one features Derek Klena (aka Christian and Dmitry) as a no-nonsense captain with a frustrating assignment: training a princess. After one letdown too many, Princess Vi faces an ultimatum: pass a leadership boot camp, or lose the throne to her uncle.
Airing on Hallmark Channel, 8 pm ET/7 pm CT (check local listings)
Friday, December 6: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
The third and final piece of the Christmas animation trifecta airs this Friday night. You know the story: Rudolph is an outcast thanks to his red nose. Then, we spin off into a whole bunch of subplots involving an elf who wants to be a dentist, a mountaineer, the Island of Misfit Toys, and Sasquatch. Fun fact: this is the special’s return to NBC — its original home — after decades on CBS!

Friday, December 6: A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter

Carpenter has been having a huge year! She’s set to put a bow on 2024 with this holiday special the week of December 2. Guest duet partners include Chappell Roan, Tyla, Shania Twain, and Kali Uchis. Plus, there will be plenty of sugar-and-spice surprises, cameos, and more, in the classic variety-show style!

Saturday, December 7: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story
Heroism is about more than just the cape. That’s what makes this documentary one of the highlights of the week of December 2. Featuring archival footage, interviews with friends and family, and more, the movie dives deep into the life of Christopher Reeve, from his rise to stardom to his devastating accident and his philanthropic legacy.
