Get your passports ready, because it’s almost time to head back to the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS) with Kitty Song Covey (Anna Cathcart) in season two of XO, Kitty! Netflix just released the trailer for the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spinoff series, and we’re so excited to see what Kitty and her friends will be up to this spring.

Discoveries in Dream Sequences
The first season of XO, Kitty played into a lot of K-drama elements while paying homage to the To All the Boys movie trilogy. One way the show did that was through dream sequences.
The XO, Kitty season two trailer picks up on that motif right away, beginning with a nightmarish dream sequence of Kitty’s first semester at KISS. It reminds us of the dramatic first season before diving back into the story. Dreams have helped Kitty make some significant realizations about who she is and what she wants in life, so we’re eager to see how the show will continue to use those for her development and growth.
Diversifying Her Dating Pool
Spoiler alert if you haven’t watched season one!
For the youngest Covey sister, going to school in Korea is all about connecting with her mom and discovering who she was. (Kitty was too young to really know or remember much about her mom when she passed.) Along the way, Kitty found more of herself, too — including her feelings for Yuri. In season one, she made her confusion clear to her dad, saying “Thank God I’m bi? Or pan? Or fluid?” Whatever the case may be, Kitty says in the XO, Kitty season two trailer that she wants to try dating girls.

This is a departure from the love lives of main characters in the Jenny Han cinematic universe — heterosexual relationships and love triangles are front and center in To All the Boys and The Summer I Turned Pretty — so it’s great to see diverse sexual orientations with the main character. Trying something new — whether it be food, a hobby, or dating — can be thrilling and terrifying. Kitty has always been a bold and daring character, but developing romantic feelings for girls is one of the few things that has shown her as vulnerable and scared.
Tropes and Tension with Min Ho
What’s a Jenny Han project — or a K-drama — without a trope or two? How about enemies to lovers? Because that’s what Kitty’s relationship with classmate Min Ho (Sang Heon Lee) is continuing to give. Towards the end of XO, Kitty season one, Kitty has a dream in which she realizes her feelings for Min Ho. They’ve had a disdain for each other pretty much since the day they met, so these romantic feelings are definitely stirring up drama and affecting their actions.

In the XO, Kitty season two trailer, when someone asks if Kitty and Min Ho are a couple, they both immediately get defensive with their answers. They want to make it crystal clear that they don’t even like each other platonically. It’ll definitely be interesting to see where this pairing goes — especially in the midst of Kitty beginning to date girls and still having feelings for her ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend turned friend, Yuri (Gia Kim). Why did they even get asked that question? Will their true feelings be revealed, or will something happen to change it all?
Love, Learning and Loss
Kitty wouldn’t be in Korea or know about KISS without her late mother. Since she died when Kitty was still very young, attending the school her mom went to is one way she aims to connect with her mom and her heritage. Kitty wants to learn about who she was and where she came from. After all, it’s part of her, too.
While Kitty was attempting to achieve that in her first semester, she got sidetracked. From struggling in classes to experiencing drama with friends and relationships, Kitty admits in the XO, Kitty season two trailer that she’s “finally going to discover who (her) mom was.” The trailer shows an old home video of her mom, so Kitty looks to be truly making progress with her search.
XO, Kitty Season Two Marks the Return of Peter Kavinsky
Last (but most certainly not least) is the return of the pocket spin king, one of the internet’s original Netflix boyfriends, the one and only Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo). Fans of To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before have been eagerly hoping for one of the film trilogy’s main characters to make an appearance on XO, Kitty, and it’s finally coming! We would love to see Lara Jean (Lana Condor), but Peter totally makes sense.

“This season of XO, Kitty is all about where Kitty is going but also where she came from,” Jessica O’Toole — XO, Kitty showrunner, executive producer and writer — told TUDUM.com. And the opportunity to include Peter Kavinsky in that journey was so exciting. I can’t wait for the fans to see Peter interact with some of their favorite XO, Kitty characters
Kitty has always adored Peter. From the XO, Kitty season two trailer, it’s clear that although Kitty wants to get her priorities straight, there are definitely roadblocks and everything won’t go as planned. After all, that wouldn’t be the most interesting show, nor would it make sense for a teenager’s life to be smooth sailing — especially in a foreign country. And while Kitty has two capable older sisters to help guide her, Peter provides a more neutral outside perspective. As we know from the To All the Boys movies, he’s a good motivator and a great shoulder to lean on. We are curious to know exactly what he’s doing in Seoul, though.
