When the world hears the name Tom Holland, we understand that everyone wants to talk about his engagement. We get that. We understand that. When there’s an official announcement, we’ll talk about it too. Until then though, we’re more interested the roles he’s taking on.
And hey, what’s better than a John Grisham novel? Well some things, but we’ll be kind. The actor has made a deal to star in and produce The Partner, a series based on the 1997 bestseller list The Imitation Game. Graham Moore is writing.
Grisham used to be the go to for law dramas. His books were being adapted left and right, and his lawyers were the lawyers that you wanted to have if you got into a situation where you’d ever need one.
We’ know that it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Holland filming anything new. But he did warn us all though that was happening. He took a year break after filming The Crowded Room, but hey, now we’re going to get to see him in so much.
He will be starring in The Odyssey, which Christopher Nolan will direct and also stars Zendaya, Matt Damon, Rob Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o and Charlize Theron. There is also the fourth Spider-man film. Then there are two more Avengers films and if he’s not in those we’re rioting.
The Partner was once set up at New Regency, where it stalled. The rights became free and eventually Rideback bought them. The project was set up at Universal.
Holland recently started a production company Billy17 with his brother, Harry and Will South. The two will be producers on the project.
Holland will be playing Patrick Lanigan, “a young partner in a white shoe Biloxi law firm who fakes his own death in a burning car. He’s left behind a wife, newborn daughter, and a secret. What he’s actually done is fake his death to create a template for a new life by stealing $90 million from a client of his crooked law firm. He finds happiness and love in South America. When the client who worked so hard to defraud the government finds the money is missing from his offshore accounts, he becomes determined to hunt down the lawyer he doesn’t believe is dead. That leads the attorney to have to turn himself in to the FBI and face up to the wife, child and life he left behind.”
Is this a movie you’ll want to watch? Do you read Grisham novels? What is your favorite one?
