We’re back! The Rookie Season 7 Episode 3 ‘Out of Pocket’ is a bridge episode in which Chenford takes baby steps towards each other but leaves us wanting more. Ready?
Here we go!
Chenford‘s Unhealed Wounds

While The Rookie Season 7 Episode 3 ‘Out of Pocket’ has been more of a transition episode than anything else, Chenford has made a little more progress on their path back to being together, even if it doesn’t seem that way at first glance. Even though Lucy promises herself to focus on her career and not have a “messy relationship” at work again, it’s just an attempt to move on after Tim broke up with her. She’s just talking about her pain here, nothing more.
And frankly, it’s totally logical. Lucy is heartbroken, even when she tells Rachel her voice cracks a little. Losing Tim broke her heart but not understanding what happened keeps that wound open and festering. However, she had to put a band-aid and move on despite everything because she and Tim work together and see each other every day, and she had no choice but to bite the bullet and stay together without having the chance to heal.
So, in that situation, Lucy wants to avoid the risk of Tim breaking her heart again because she knows she can’t just put a band-aid on again and continue like she’s doing now. However, when in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 3 ‘Out of Pocket’ Lucy has to decide to completely disassociate herself from Tim or maintain a bond with him, even if it’s minimal, she chooses to keep it. We’re talking about the bet.
After Grey’s reprimand, it would be normal for Tim and Lucy to put the bet aside completely, but they don’t because it’s the only thing that really unites them. Even though they work together, they don’t really have an excuse to talk to each other or be close. The bet gives them that excuse to stay there, without letting each other go… although without deciding to take a step further. But baby steps are steps after all.
And one of those baby steps is the closure that Tim and Rachel have in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 3 ‘Out of Pocket.’ Although he insists that he doesn’t need it, he does, because understanding what happened with Rachel and why she walked away without a word can help heal certain wounds of Tim’s that, whether he recognizes it or not, are there and have a lot to do with the decisions he made regarding Lucy.
That said, the truth is that they could go a little faster with this and, for example, show us what happened with Tim’s therapy. It seems that, after discovering the truth about his last therapist, he regressed and closed himself off again. If he’s avoided talking about what he feels, something completely necessary for him and Lucy to get back together, there’s not going to be any healing.

Other Stuff in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 3 ‘Out of Pocket’

- Nolan (almost) saved the day. What a shocker!
- Wesley needs to stop all this nonsense. Yes, Angela is hot and yes, other men are going to want her, he can’t control that and it doesn’t mean ANYTHING.
- Frankly, we feel like this silly storyline is a result of them not knowing what to do with Wesley.
- “Darling.” I almost suffocated Miles here. But I loved seeing Tim jealous.
- Lucy taught Seth well.
- Tim is a cutie wanting to protect Lucy, but she doesn’t need him.
- Rachel says Chenford is “the perfect match” and is weirded out that they’re separated. We know what the show is doing here…
- I don’t believe for a second that Rachel is going to come between Chenford.
- Miles and Seth really have no idea how badly they did, do they? That went well but it could have gone wrong and they’d be dead.
- James needs to chill out. Harper is fed up and rightly so.
