One thing that you can count on with Lili Reinhart is that she will be open about a lot of things. She’s an advocate for health – mental and physical.
In a recent interview with Self, Reinhart opened up about her chronic illness. Recently she was diagnosed with a chronic disorder called interstitial cystitis. So what does it mean?
Self described the disorder as, “where a person’s bladder or bladder wall becomes irritated and inflamed. It can have a long-lasting impact on a person’s quality of life.”
After the release of the interview, Reinhart took to Instagram and posted pictures of herself in the hospital and text messages that described how she was feeling.
She wrote, “I feel it’s important to show an honest glimpse at what last year was like for me, when dealing with my health issues. I’m so thankful for @selfmagazine and @julia_c_sullivan for giving me the space to share what I’ve been going through. Being diagnosed with interstitial cystitis while simultaneously searching for answers about a mysterious autoimmunity/inflammatory disease made 2024 the hardest year of my life.”
She continued, “I was inspired to talk about this after my grandmother was ignored by doctors for months when exhibiting clear symptoms of cancer- and it was only after her own strength and advocation for herself that she was given a blood test that diagnosed her. And by then, the cancer had spread. The most important thing I have taken away from this experience is the absolute need to advocate for your own health. Do not let a doctor gaslight you or diminish your pain. I hope the men & women out there struggling to find answers feel even the slightest bit seen by my experience. ❤️🩹”
We’re thankful that she spoke out and made people feel less alone. Chronic Illness is lonely and isolating. Thank you Lili for speaking out and being so open.
