Here we go!
Heroines Need to Take Care of Themselves Too

Nyla has one goal in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire’: catching Liam. To do that, she’s working overtime and barely sleeping. And we admire her for it. Truly, she is a heroine. But she is important and needs to take care of herself. She needs to rest, delegate, and trust that her other coworkers will do as thorough a job as she does. Nyla needs to prioritize herself. Although we understand where she’s coming from.
Liam attacked her, he made her feel unsafe, and she really thought that was the end. And it affected her. It affected her more than she wanted to admit to herself. She feels unsafe and is worried about her family as well. So Nyla needs to catch Liam so she can heal and move on. Nyla can’t sit back and do nothing, she can’t rest until she catches him. So she does what she has to do, even if it means that she forgets about living because the truth is she can’t breathe until Liam is behind bars. And it’s understandable…but it’s not right.
In the end, inevitably, it will take its toll. And that happens in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire.’ Nyla is so anxious, so go-go-go, and so nervous about catching Liam and stopping him from hurting anyone else that it blinds her. So, she puts too much pressure on Liam’s wife, when the answer is to think outside the box and earn the family’s trust. Plus, this case is becoming almost an obsession for her and that’s never a good thing. That’s why Angela tells her the truth, even if it hurts.
In the end, Nyla manages to catch Liam and finally understands that she doesn’t have to do everything herself. He’s off the streets now, Nyla can breathe again, and she feels like she and her family are safe, so someone else can take care of the rest. And we’re proud of her!

Last Breath

Chenford continues to take steps toward their reconciliation on The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire.’ Circumstances lead to them working together and the pranks start up again between them, adjusting to their post-Valentine’s Day reality. Soon, duty calls and they end up in the middle of a fire. And that changes everything. When they’re with the fire over their heads, knowing that this may be the end, Tim needs to tell her. He needs Lucy to know that he still loves her and that he never stopped loving her. He can’t die without telling her, he doesn’t want her to die without hearing it. If this is the last thing he does, so be it.
But Lucy already knows. She feels it. What’s holding her back isn’t doubting that Tim loves her, but the possibility that he’ll break her heart again. And she doesn’t want to hear any of that, not now. If Tim confesses his feelings to her…that feels too much like goodbye and makes everything too real. And it can’t be like that, everything can’t end like this. They have time. They’ll have time to talk about it later. But “later” may not exist and Tim knows it. So in the middle of the fire, of the ashes, with Lucy clutched tightly to his chest, Tim yells to Lucy that he still loves her…and asks if it’s mutual.
In The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire’ Tim needs to know if Lucy still feels the same way he does and if they have a chance or if she is over him. She threw him away so easily on Valentine’s Day… But Tim is wrong. None of this was easy for Lucy. That’s why she avoids answering because what does it matter? Her loving him back doesn’t change anything. It doesn’t fix their problems because the problem for them was never the lack of love. They always loved each other, but they ended up heartbroken anyway.
And Tim understands that. He knows that she reciprocates his feelings. She loves him. And that’s all he needed. He needed to know that Lucy hadn’t given up on him. They can work from there. When it’s all over, the two hug each other in relief because they need to feel each other. They need to feel that the other is okay, that they’re alive. They’ve been so close…
Everything that happens in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire’ is key. Now the cards are on the table for both of them and they can’t go back to the beginning. Neither of them can take refuge in distance or pretend that they’re moving on like they did at the beginning of their breakup. Now they can walk together again, not as a couple yet, but as more than just friends, knowing that they are waiting and they are not going to give up or let each other go.
If you ask us, we think that Chenford will be back together by the end of the season. But, for now, let’s start with some classes.

Learning from Mistakes

Seth goes from bad to worse in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire.’ We can understand the mistake he made. It was a big one because of all the calls he was taking, updating the progress of the fires was the most important. By far. But we can understand that there were a lot of calls, he was alone — and he shouldn’t have been — he went from one thing to another and when he realized it, it was too late. So yes, it’s a big mistake, but an understandable one.
The point with mistakes is that you have to learn from them. Mistakes are never made with bad intentions but they all have consequences. So the best thing to do is to accept that mistake, ask for forgiveness and, if there are consequences, accept them too. Not doing so is making mistake after mistake and making the problem much bigger by the time everything is discovered — because the truth always comes out.
Seth had the opportunity in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire’ to really show that he had changed. He could have been honest about what had happened but he didn’t. He chose to lie, first by hiding the paper that reveals that he knew that area wasn’t safe and then by making up a story blaming someone else for what he did. In fact, Seth doesn’t even seem sorry for what happened, relieved that Tim and Lucy are okay, yes, but nothing more.
Thus, Seth proved once again that the program is not for him and that Lucy is right to distrust him. Maybe, if Seth had told the truth, he would not have been kicked out of the program but we will never know. When Tim and Lucy find out what really happened, they will kick him out and they will be absolutely right to do so.

Unexpected Kiss

James is committed to helping the community and that, sometimes, means dealing with very dangerous people. That is exactly what happens in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire.’ He knew something was going on with Kylie, he was just respecting her space. If Kylie decided to trust him, James would listen to her, but he would not pressure her into anything if she wasn’t ready. When she was, James was there, by her side…and she messed up.
Kylie felt protected by James, listened to, supported, and safe, it had been so long since she felt that way…so she kissed him. But James didn’t kiss her back. He did the right thing and immediately broke it off, making it clear to Kylie that he was taken. And it would have stayed there if it weren’t for Nolan seeing it all. Now he’s in this dilemma about whether to tell Harper or not. On one hand, he and Harper are friends but on the other hand, couple things are about two, not three.
Wesley is once again the one giving out the sage advice in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 8 ‘Wildfire.’ Nyla deserves to know. But, weirdly, James of all people is cheating on Harper and he at least deserves a chance to tell her. So it’s fair to give him the chance to do so. And we agree that that is the right thing to do. However, Nolan doesn’t have time to do anything when the episode leaves us with our hearts in our mouths seeing James and Kylie shot. And we really jumped out of our seats there!
