There is something special about an early renewal. We’re sure that it is special for the cast and crew involved. I would argue though, when it comes to Percy Jackson – it’s special for us all. We know that Season 2 is due this December and it’s been renewed for Season 3.
Season 3 of the popular series will focus on the third book in Rick Riordan’s best-selling series, The Titan’s Curse.
“From the moment Percy Jackson and the Olympians debuted, it was clear this series had struck a chord with fans of all ages,” Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television, said in a statement. “With season two set to premiere this December, we’re thrilled to announce that Percy’s journey will continue with a third season. Huge thanks to our incredible cast and creative team, our partners at 20th Television, and our visionary and talented producers who continue to bring Rick Riordan’s world to life with such depth and imagination.”
So why the early renewal?
THR reported that the “early renewal will allow the show’s writers and crew to begin work on the third installment, which, in turn, could potentially cut down on the time between seasons.”
That makes sense to us, as the series young stars grow in their careers. There’s that and Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri are getting older. The Percy Jackson series does need to take getting older into consideration, as in the books, the kids are young. Paying attention, so that the stars aren’t a lot older than the characters that they are playing makes sense. Then again, we also remember a lot of shows where thirty year olds were portraying teenagers.
Not that we’re complaining about the early renewal – we’re excited about it. Hey, we get to meet a lot of our favorite characters in The Titans Curse. Nico and Apollo, anyone?
“We’re so grateful to be continuing the story of Percy Jackson on Disney+. This third season will be new territory for the screen, bringing fan favorites like the Hunters of Artemis and Nico di Angelo to life for the first time,” Percy Jackson author, Rick Riordan said in a statement. “It’s a huge sign of commitment from Disney, and speaks volumes about the enthusiasm with which the fandom has embraced the TV show. Thank you, demigods worldwide!”
Good Percy Jackson times are coming. First up – Season 2. It will follow Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood and their new adventure. It will be based on the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters.
Production on Season 2 of the series wrapped this past August. No word on when Season 3 will start filming.
