We’re back! The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 ‘Speed’ is another transitional episode that, despite being entertaining, somehow ends up being less balanced than the previous one. Chenford takes a small step in the right direction, though, and that makes almost everything worthwhile. Ready?
Here we go!
A Small Step Forward in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 ‘Speed’

The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 ‘Speed’ is the show’s second bridge episode in a row. The previous episode was better balanced, as we got a bit more plot outside of the case of the week. That said, this new episode gives us a little step forward for Chenford, and that’s always a plus.
Once again, they work together on the case, which allows them to interact and talk about their daily lives, about everything and nothing at the same time. We can’t miss how Lucy confesses to Tim her doubts about her professional future and how she doesn’t want to have another rookie after what happened with Seth. And we also realize that he’s always there for her, supporting her, advising her, and being honest about his opinions. This blurs the lines between them, as they’re not just being professionals but more of a kind of…friends.
The point for Chenford is that they can’t just be friends. They have too many feelings for each other for that. That’s why a friendly conversation between them in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 ‘Speed’ quickly turns into flirting. And that flirting leads to very personal questions. Lucy needs that to stop. She wants to set boundaries because she knows where they’ll end up if they don’t. And Lucy can’t let them go there. Not yet. She hasn’t fully forgiven Tim for breaking her heart and isn’t ready to risk it happening again.

Sincerity is Always the Answer

This is the first time Lucy is honest with Tim about where she stands in their relationship. It was necessary to see her point of view to understand since we’re very aware of where Tim is at. And we love that Tim understands Lucy’s position. He knows her and already knows that she hasn’t fully forgiven him yet, and he understands why, just as he understands that she asks for boundaries. Tim knows she needs time, and he just wants to be there, fighting to regain her trust and show her that he’ll never break her heart again.
And it’s working. Lucy sees that Tim is making an effort. She realized he is working on his issues. Lucy is also aware that Tim showed her at every step his intention to fight for her, for them. That’s why in The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 ‘Speed,’ Lucy opens the door for him. She’s telling him that while she’s not finished healing and forgiving yet, she’s on that path. One day, she will be ready to take another chance.
At this moment, Lucy is letting Tim know that she hasn’t given up on him, on them, either. She just needs a little more time, and Tim is more than willing to give it to her. He dreams of the moment they’ll be together again. And so are we! So, no doubt about it, we’re so back! Our money’s still on Chenford reconciling at the end of the season.

Other Stuff

- Celina was amazing on her first undercover mission.
- She has a lot to process now, but we thought her sincere concern for Nolan was super sweet.
- We’re not saying Nolan didn’t deserve that applause, but didn’t Celina deserve one, too? We think so!
- Bailey is definitely a badass.
- Chenford communicates like a married couple, we swear.
- That said, we need the show to be more consistent with the couple’s evolution and give us more of them than a few scenes working together.
- It’s normal for Lucy to feel this way after everything that happened with Seth. Anyway, we don’t think she’d be a natural TO. She’ll make a great sergeant!
- We miss Wopez! We need more of them than a couple of cute scenes per episode.
- We love Nyla.
- It’s a nice twist that the person behind everything that happened with the bus is our favorite hated lawyer. This will lead to something bigger later on, we’re sure.
- We like the idea that Bailan is going to adopt a child.
The Rookie Season 7 airs Tuesdays at 9 pm on ABC.
