The first official look at Netflix’s The Waterfront has just been released, offering a glimpse into the intense, emotionally charged family saga coming this summer. Created by acclaimed showrunner Kevin Williamson — know for Scream, Dawson’s Creek, The Vampire Diaries —, the series takes us deep into the stormy waters of legacy, betrayal, and survival on the North Carolina coast.
Set in the fictional town of Havenport, The Waterfront follows the powerful Buckley family, who have long dominated everything from the local fishing industry to the restaurant scene. But their empire starts to crack when patriarch Harlan Buckley (played by Holt McCallany) finds himself recovering from two heart attacks.
With Harlan sidelined, his wife Belle (Maria Bello) and son Cane (Jake Weary) step up to keep the family business afloat — but their efforts quickly spiral out of control. Meanwhile, daughter Bree Buckley (Melissa Benoist), a recovering addict who has lost custody of her son, is drawn into a complicated relationship that could threaten everything the family has built.

This first look makes it clear that The Waterfront is far more than a typical family drama. Spanning eight episodes, the series dives deep into the complexities of family loyalty, personal demons, and the dangerous lengths people will go to protect their legacy. With its moody, coastal North Carolina setting and a stellar cast, the show is shaping up to be one of the summer’s most talked-about premieres.
With the just-released preview setting the tone, The Waterfront is already making waves. If this glimpse is any indication, there’s a storm brewing — and the Buckleys are right at the center of it.
The Waterfront is set to premiere on Netflix on June 19, 2025.
