Owen Wilson plays Pryce “Stick” Cahill, an ex-pro golfer who discovers his next chapter alongside a young golf phenom, in Apple TV+’s Stick. The streamer released a first look at the new sports comedy series in February. Now, the characters are swinging into motion in Stick’s first trailer ahead of its series debut next month.
As previously announced, the series, created by Jason Keller and executive produced by Wilson, premieres with three episodes on Wednesday, June 4. The 10-episode season will unfold with one episode every week through July 23.
The trailer finds Wilson’s Pryce 20 years after his professional career was derailed by putting a ball in the water and having a “full psychotic break, live on TV.” Marc Maron’s character fills in those quoted parts of Pryce Cahill’s history at the bar. As if that’s not enough, Pryce is also going through a divorce from his wife, played by Judy Greer, where their family home is still in contention.

Though the trailer doesn’t seem to reveal how, Pryce is also fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store. Presumably, that’s how he winds up teaching people, like Mrs. Nussbaum, how to play golf. That’s where he meets 17-year-old golf phenom, Santi, played by Peter Dager. Santi’s relationship with the sport is also complicated. He can “swing like a dream,” according to Pryce, but he doesn’t play as much because of his relationship with his father.
Santi’s dad taught him to love the sport, and he’s the reason why he no longer plays. Nevertheless, Pryce has big plans for Santi in helping him qualify for the U.S. Amateur Championship. Through his mentorship of Santi, Pryce discovers a chance to move on and find redemption with a sport that hasn’t been the kindest to him since 2009. Pryce reveals as much by saying, “This game takes, and it takes. The game is finally giving me something back.”
However, Stick’s trailer teases that there is much more at play than mentorship. Pryce also tells Santi, “You are my friend, and that’s got nothing to do with how well you swing a golf club. I care about you more.” If that doesn’t suggest that Stick will be the “heartfelt, feel-good sports comedy about a found family and their relationships set within the world of golf as it has never been shown before” that Apple TV+ advertises it as, what will?

Stick also stars Mariana Treviño, Lilli Kay, and Timothy Olyphant, who is in the trailer for a second. The show’s guest stars include golf superstars such as Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, and more.
Viewers can also expect cameos from broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman (who are in the trailer), Good Good’s Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke and Garrett Clark, as well as golf enthusiast Dan Rapaport.
The show’s executive producers are Ben Silverman for Propagate Content and Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Drew Buckley, Lee Eisenberg, Natalie Sandy, Christopher Moynihan, Bill Callahan, Valerie Faris, Jonathan Dayton, and Jaffar Mahmood. Faris, Dayton, and Mahmood serve as directors along with David Dobkin, MJ Delaney, and John Hamburg.
