Last December, we learned that Tell Me Lies, the popular Hulu series based on Carola Lovering’s book of the same name, had been renewed for a third season. Since then, we have been waiting for updates. And now, based on Alicia Crowder’s social media posts and the official Tell Me Lies account, we can happily announce that season three is finally in production.
Tell Me Lies is a drama-filled show that focuses on the toxic on-and-off relationship between college students Lucy (Grace Van Patten) and Stephen (Jackson White), their ups and downs, and how their relationship affects them and those around them. The drama spans eight years and flashes back and forth between the past and present. When Season two ended, we were in 2015 for the present time and 2008 for the past. Though Lucy and Stephen went through their first breakup in season two, they found their way back to each other in the past and present. All of this while they were both involved with other people.
So much drama unfolded in Season two of Tell Me Lies, and with how it ended, we’re all wondering what’s next. As everyone was gathered for Bree (Cat Missal) and Evans’ (Branden Cook) wedding, she learned via a voice note sent to her by Stephen that Evan and Lucy had slept together in 2008. Talk about a long grudge. But that is what we call a Stephen DeMarco special. Make people believe everything is all cool and fine, then BAM! He pulls the rug out from under them to ruin their lives. That shocking cliffhanger left us all stunned. And with that, we’re wondering what’s next, so we put together a wish list of things we hope to see in Season 3.
1. Brees Revenge

Bree is one of those people who has always been underestimated by her friends, and even by Oliver the Professor and his wife Marianne. We learned in Season two of Tell Me Lies that she’s a little sneaky when she wants to be. Leaving those earrings behind for Oliver’s wife to see during their affair was proof of that. Bree has always been there for Pippa and Lucy. And she was always the quieter one. After learning that Evan slept with Lucy, we have no idea how she will react. We don’t think she will call off her wedding to Evan. Despite his infidelity in college, we know they do love each other.
But that doesn’t mean Bree won’t store this information for later. Also, let’s be real here: Bree is not innocent herself. She was sleeping with Oliver, a married man who was also one of Evans’ professors. In 2008, all Evan knew from Bree was that she was in a relationship with an older man. He had no idea the identity of the older man. Will he learn this in Season 3? We think he probably will, considering that Tom Ellis is set to return for season three. Our only question is, did he find this out before their wedding day, or will he find out later in 2015? Is that private number that kept calling Bree the professor? So many questions to answer.
Then there is the matter of Stephen and Lucy. How will Bree deal with them? Will she confront Lucy and Stephen? Or will she pull her own Stephen DeMarco and surprise everyone later on with what she learned?
2. Lucy and Stephen to Be Exposed

Listen, we know there is a lot of ground to cover on Tell Me Lies. But we desperately want the toxic duo of Lucy and Stephen to get their comeuppance. Stephen catching a beatdown from Leo was too easy for him. I said what I said. Stephen and Lucy are both the absolute worst. As Lucy pointed out in Episode 8, had it not been for the fiasco with the letter she wrote to expose Wrigley’s (Spencer House) little brother Drew (Benjamin Wadsworth) in the Macy Campbell murder (Which he had absolutely nothing to do with), they would not be in the mess they’re in. The two of them have woven a tangled, crazy web of lies, and both do it like it’s as easy as breathing.
When Wrigley accidentally caused his brother’s death, Lucy knew it was time to fess up, but Stephen stepped in and took the fall. Wrigley took the news that he had written the letter well. That shook me because I thought Wrigley would blow up on Stephen. But, once again, he forgave him. Wrigley always forgives Stephen. That’s probably why he lied. Because he knew Wrigley would be more forgiving of him. Still, with all they have done and gotten away with, it’s time for them to be taken down several pegs.
3. Pippa Learns Lucy is a Liar

Our girl Pippa (Sonia Mena) has gone through a lot; quite honestly, some of what she’s dealt with is Lucy’s fault. Lucy’s writing that letter to the Dean caused her falling out with Wrigley. He thought she had broken his confidence after he told her about Drew and Macy. Lucy may not have pinned the letter on Pippa, but Stephen did. And he manipulated Wrigley into believing she could do something like that. Lucy didn’t even step in to defend her or try to keep Wrigley from blaming her. What kind of friend does something like that? And even when Stephen lied on Lucy’s behalf, he didn’t try to at least fake an apology to Pippa for falsely accusing her.
Then there is the matter of Lucy creating drama that Pippa didn’t ask for surrounding the events of her sexual assault. Lucy’s rash decision to make a false claim that her ex-bestie Lydias brother Chris assaulted her was unwise. We don’t know how Pippa didn’t see it that way. Diana (Alicia Crowder) tried to convince her that it was wrong. Yet Pippa believed she did it to protect her. Sometimes, there are times when it’s best to leave things alone. Unfortunately, lies have a way of coming to light, and when Lucy’s lie comes out, it will force Pippa to reopen wounds she does not want to. So, in actuality, Lucy just made the situation worse.

4. More Pippa and Diana

Seeing Pippa and Diana in a relationship was something we did not see coming. But we love it. They started out as frenemies and then got closer. Especially because Diana was there for Pippa in her time of need. We are so interested in getting those looks of them in the past to see how they went from friends to lovers. There’s a lot of ground that can be covered for this. We also want to see Pippa happy because it’s evident that Diana makes her happy. Both women deserve some good in their lives, and we want to see it.
Considering they still hang with their old friend group, we also know there will be some drama. The secrets that remain between all of them have yet to be uncovered. Also, we want to see the aftermath of Diana flipping the script on Stephen with that breakup. Did she end up at Yale after all? Or did Stephen somehow plot revenge on her once he realized she was much smarter than he was? Stephen thrives on revenge. And there is a reason that Diana didn’t want to be around everyone immediately, and we understand why.
5. Happiness for Wrigley

Our poor Wrigley has also had a rough time. From managing a learning disability in Tell Me Lies Season 1, to navigating the highs and lows of his relationship with Pippa, and then ultimately contributing to the death of his brother. Wrigley is the only one of the friend group who seems to be all alone. And he’s been spiraling a lot. If you think about it, he’s always been alone in his pain and struggles, unless, of course, he had Pippa to support him. Sure, he has his guy friends with Evan and Stephen, but Evan was always busy with his studies, and Stephen was too self-absorbed to even care about what was going on with Wrigley.
Everyone wants to be around Wrigley when he’s the fun guy. But sometimes, he takes it a little far. And he started to learn that. We also think that losing his brother has calmed him down in some ways. We also know that it hasn’t been easy on him. Being the reason your sibling died is not something to easily come back from. And what makes it even more heartbreaking is that none of it had to happen.
Again, everything leads back to Lucy and Stephen and their lies. Stephen allowed Drew to believe that he was the one responsible for Macy Campbell’s death, and then fooling Wrigley into thinking the same caused a rift in their relationship. And it only got worse when Lucy wrote that stupid letter. We admit that Wrigley made us so angry when he accused Pippa of writing the letter. He was on our list for a minute, but we’re glad they repaired their relationship at least in the way they could.
One thing is certain: We want Wrigley to get his revenge on Stephen. Stephen is trash, and he’s an even crappier friend. Wrigley deserves to be able to go off on Stephen. He deserves to learn the truth. And we also want him to be happy at some point. We know that in the year 2015, he’s still struggling, and from what we can see, he’s also still alone. We want good things for him, and hopefully, we do see that in Season 3 of Tell Me Lies.
Seasons 1 and 2 of Tell Me Lies are available to stream on Hulu.
