The Fraser story continues — but this time, we’re going further back than ever before. Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the highly anticipated Outlander spin-off, dives into the early lives of Jamie Fraser’s parents — Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie — while also exploring a parallel storyline following a young Claire Beauchamp and her parents. And while the characters may be new, one thing remains as iconic as ever: the setting. Because yes, this prequel is also soaked in the unmistakable magic of the Scottish Highlands. But where exactly was Outlander: Blood of My Blood filmed? We’ve got all the details.
Scotland, the Beating Heart of the Fraser World
Just like the original series, Blood of My Blood was filmed primarily in Scotland, which doesn’t just serve as a backdrop — it defines the tone and soul of the entire Outlander universe. The rugged countryside, ancient castles, and misty hills are more than just beautiful—they’re foundational to the storytelling.
Production returned to Govan, Glasgow, where a major studio hub was used to construct interiors like Clan MacKenzie’s ancestral homes and other 18th-century estates. Exterior scenes were also shot in Perthshire, a region known for its dense forests and cobblestone trails that feel like they’ve been lifted straight out of history.
Among the most prominent filming spots for the series are:
- Cumbernauld Glen (North Lanarkshire): A lush woodland already familiar to Outlander fans, it’s back once again to portray parts of Ellen MacKenzie’s world.
- Pollok Country Park (Glasgow): With its 18th-century architecture and expansive greenery, this park stands in for multiple period locations.
- Berwickshire: Scenes exploring the Beauchamp family origins were filmed here, representing locations outside the Highlands.
While part of Blood of My Blood is set in England and other parts of the UK, the production has cleverly used Scottish locations to stand in for several of these places. This is a trick Outlander fans know all too well.

Staying True to the Spirit of Outlander
For long-time fans, the setting is more than just scenery — it’s a character in its own right. Returning to moss-covered stone walls and enchanted-looking forests brings back the emotional continuity that has always defined Outlander. And Blood of My Blood delivers on that promise: from sweeping glens to intimate castle interiors, every frame is crafted with care to evoke both nostalgia and awe.
Thanks to a combination of practical studio builds and the stunning Scottish countryside, the show also feels even more immersive. It’s a cinematic tribute to the world we’ve fallen in love with over the years.
Ready to return to Scotland? We are. And while we wait for the premiere, we’re already mapping out our next Outlander fan trip to the Highlands. Because one thing’s for sure: Outlander isn’t just something you watch — it’s something you feel.
Blood of My Blood is expected to premiere on August 8 on STARZ.
