If you’re anything like us, you’ve already cleared your schedule for STARZ’s Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The highly anticipated prequel to Outlander promises to bring all the sweeping romance, family drama, and Highland intensity we’ve come to love. But as you dive into the early days of the Frasers and MacKenzies, you may find yourself asking, “Where do I know that actor from?”. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here’s where you’ve seen the Outlander: Blood of My Blood cast before.
Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie

Ellen MacKenzie is more than just Jamie’s mother. She’s a legend in the original Outlander series, a woman whose love for Brian Fraser was so powerful that she defied her clan to marry him. That legacy rests in the capable hands of Harriet Slater.
You may recognize Slater from her role as Sandra Onslow in Pennyworth, where she played a spirited nightclub singer navigating war-torn London. The role demanded charm, strength, and a touch of mischief—all qualities that will serve her well as Ellen. She also appeared in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, proving she’s ready for epic storytelling on a global scale. Slater has an innate magnetism, and we have no doubt she’ll bring the fiery heart of the MacKenzie clan to life.
Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser

Brian Fraser—Jamie’s father—has long been a character shrouded in romantic myth. Jamie Roy is stepping into those shoes with quiet confidence.
Roy has appeared in projects like Grantchester and Condor, where he played thoughtful, brooding characters who carried deep emotional weight. And that’s what Brian requires: a man torn between his loyalty to family and his overwhelming love for Ellen. He has to be both a romantic lead and a moral compass, and Roy seems perfectly cast to bring that balance to the screen.
Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston

If the name Hermione Corfield rings a bell, it’s because she’s been quietly building an impressive résumé across film and television. She starred in the psychological crime thriller We Hunt Together, delivered emotional complexity in Strike: Lethal White, and turned heads in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
In Blood of My Blood, Corfield plays Julia Moriston, Claire’s ancestor. We don’t know much yet about her arc, but we’re intrigued. With Corfield’s combination of mystery and screen presence, we expect Julia to be a linchpin in the English timeline and maybe even a heartbreaker in her own right.

Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp

As Henry Beauchamp, Jeremy Irvine plays a direct ancestor of Claire Randall. While Claire’s story was rooted in science and independence, Henry’s is expected to reflect the societal structures of the early 20th century—and the pressures of family duty.
Irvine is best known for War Horse, where he proved he could carry a sweeping historical drama on his shoulders. He’s also starred in Treadstone, Great Expectations, and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, showing a range from tortured soul to full-on musical dreamboat. His casting as Henry feels like a love letter to classic British period drama fans and we’re here for it.
Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser

Every Outlander fan has a soft spot for Murtagh. In Blood of My Blood, we get to see a younger version of the fiercely loyal protector, this time played by Rory Alexander.
You may have seen Alexander in Pistol, Alex Rider, and Dark Windows. He proved he can command a show. As young Murtagh, he’ll likely show us a more idealistic version of the man who would one day become Jamie’s closest confidant. Expect emotional nuance, swords, and scenes that will make you cry in the best way.
Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie

Sam Retford brings youthful energy and barely-contained chaos to Dougal MacKenzie, a character we already know as passionate, unpredictable, and deeply driven by his beliefs.
Retford made a splash in Ackley Bridge as Cory Wilson, and also appeared in Death in Paradise. He brings an edge to his performances—there’s always something bubbling under the surface. That’s exactly what a young Dougal needs: ambition, emotional fire, and maybe a little bit of danger. We can’t wait to see him go head-to-head with Ellen and Colum.

Seamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie

Taking on Colum MacKenzie—the future laird of Clan MacKenzie—is no small feat. In Outlander, Colum was wise but intimidating, kind but manipulative. Seamus McLean Ross steps into this complex role.
Ross has mostly been known for his work in theatre and short-form drama like Payback and Rebus. Blood of My Blood could be his breakout. We’re excited to see how he explores the early days of Colum’s leadership and illness—and how his relationship with his siblings shaped the clan’s future.
Tony Curran as Simon Fraser

Veteran actor Tony Curran is a dream casting choice for Simon Fraser, Jamie’s grandfather. If you were emotionally devastated by his performance as Vincent van Gogh in Doctor Who, you already know what he’s capable of.
Curran has an impressive filmography: Mayflies, Defiance, Underworld: Evolution, Ray Donovan, and Deadwood: The Movie, just to name a few. He has the gravitas needed to play a clan patriarch—someone who walks into a room and changes the temperature. Expect power, pride, and pain in equal measure.
Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan

A fan-favorite from the original series, Ned Gowan is the clever lawyer with a dry wit and a fondness for the Highlands. In Blood of My Blood, we’ll get to see his younger years through the eyes of Conor MacNeill.
MacNeill shined in Industry, where he delivered layered performances with just the right balance of intellect and vulnerability. As young Ned, we expect him to be clever, charming, and maybe just a little rebellious.

Sadhbh Malin as Jocasta Cameron

We’ve seen Jocasta as a commanding presence in the main series, played by Maria Doyle Kennedy. Now, Sadhbh Malin brings her to life in her youth—and we’re intrigued.
Malin has primarily worked in theatre and indie film, but this role could be a game-changer. Jocasta is a woman of fire and ambition, and we’re hoping Blood of My Blood shows us how she became the powerful matriarch we know and love.
Sally Messham as Mrs. Fitz

Rounding out the cast is Sally Messham as a young Mrs. Fitz aka the heart of Castle Leoch in the original series. Messham is known for Doc Martin, A Small Light, and Artemis Fowl. She brings warmth and grounded presence to her roles, making her the perfect choice to show us a softer, perhaps less world-weary version of Mrs. Fitz.
Blood of My Blood is expected to premiere on August 8 on STARZ.
I Think Hermione Corfield would be great choice as Wonder Woman/Princess Diana of Themyscira In James Gunn Reboot DCEU
I Think Harriet Slater would be great choice as Jean Grey In MCU
