You may have heard someone screaming about 45 minutes ago. That was me when it flashed across my screen that The Devil Wears Prada sequel is officially in production. Screaming turned into tears of joy.
A lot of us can remember 19 years ago when The Devil Wears Prada premiered. For the last 19 years, our lives have stopped every single time The Devil Wears Prada has made its way to our television screens. A sequel felt like we were dreaming too big, and not dreaming so big has felt like a disservice.
But, along with it being 19 years since it premiered, it seemed like the perfect time to announce a sequel. Anna Wintour stepping down as Vogue’s Editor In Chief – you can not choose a more viral moment than that to piggyback off of. Then again, the announcement that the sequel is in production would have been enough. It is enough. Lord, we are just so happy for this!
We being me, speaking for everyone I know.
Emily Blunt had given a clue earlier this month when she was asked when the sequel would start filming. She had told ET, “July.”
Though no one really knows all of the plot, it has been reported that it will focus on “Priestly, still the head of Runway, contending with the headwinds of publishing, with the magazine now in a diminished state. Blunt’s one-time assistant will now be an executive at a luxury brand conglomerate that advertises with Runway.”
The announcement was made on social media with a video using iconic lines from the original as its soundtrack.
Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci are set to return. Joining the cast is Kenneth Branagh, who will star as Miranda Priestly’s husband.
We can not wait for this sequel! What about you? Are you excited?
