The fall of Hawkins, Indiana is here in the teaser trailer for Stranger Things Season 5.
After the events of Season 4, Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts and Vecna has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating Eleven and the gang’s mission to save the day is the government. They’ve A) placed the town under military quarantine and B) intensified their hunt for Eleven, forcing her back into hiding.
With the final battle is looming, here are 10 things you might’ve missed from the Stranger Things Season 5 teaser trailer!
1. Kids hiding in bunker
Whatever is happening in Hawkins, not everyone can leave. And while the adults are taking on the big bad monsters, the children have to be protected and they have to go somewhere. That’s what the bunker is for. To protect the children. But from what we’ve seen, that isn’t going to last long when Vecna arrives on the scene.

2. The rift is an open secret
The synopsis for Stranger Things Season 5 says “rifts” when talking about the breaches into our world from the Upside Down. So this one pictured right here has to be one of many. But the military presence around it also means its one of the biggest ones that needs to be consistently burned. And I think this is the rift that Steve and the gang drive through. See point 6.

3. … And it’s under military control
This part of Hawkins is completely quarantined, with barricades and structures around the actual building to try and contain the rift. And knowing that the gang has to go through this is terrifying. Someone will get hurt. It’s the final season.

4. Building their own sensory deprivation tank
Time has passed since the end of Season 4. First clue is Elle’s hair. It’s long. So it’s either TV magic, years have passed, or it’s a wig. Second, that sensory deprivation tank. They built to allow her to traverse through the Upside Down to find Vecna. Unlike the pool in Season 1, this looks like it took time.

5. … And Mike’s mom and sister hiding in it
Desperate times call for desperate measures. And the only reason why they’re hiding in the sensory deprivation tank is because they have nowhere else to go and the creatures of the Upside Down have found them. Because it wouldn’t be the soldiers that they’re hiding from, right?

6. Steve and gang driving into the Upside Down
There are multiple points in this trailer where Steve, Dustin, Nancy, and Jonathan are show in the Upside Down. Combine that with this blink and you’ll miss it scene of the car driving through a fence, the main rift having a ramp, and the red of the rift, and you haven’t Steve and the gang LITERALLY driving into the Upside Down. Iconic.

7. Lucas protecting Max in the hospital
There are multiple instances where Lucas isn’t with his friends. And that’s because he’s watching over Max, making sure she’s never alone. And this scene right here is proof that that hospital gets hit when it comes to the demodogs. It’s not a coincidence either. Max is an empty vessel right now. And Vecna is probably looking for her as a permanent way to return to our world forever.

8. The tunnels being visited again
The tunnels underneath Hawkins first appeared in Season 2 of Stranger Things. They were an extension of the Upside Down and a way to basically terraform Earth. Also the creatures can make their way safely across the town in them. Looks like in Stranger Things Season 5 the gang is going to be using the tunnels again. Whether it’s to escape or get to a rift, we don’t know yet.

9. Hopper protecting Eleven
This is Hopper protecting Eleven from the military forces, aka Turner, who want to capture Elle. The outfit being worn is the same one Elle was wearing in the trailer when doing hero jumps. And Hopper can be seen in another clip leaning back, with Elle to the side, and throwing the grenades.

10. What this Nancy scene tells us about who is dying
Plenty of times in the trailer, Nancy is seen in a purple sweater. This lighter sweater, it’s not in the Upside Down. It’s after a battle. And if we combine her devastation with Jonathan’s speech and Will being overtaken by Vecna, I think it’s Jonathan who will die. He’ll do anything for his brother. And his death would destroy Nancy.
