Ships. Some we hate and some we love, but we always know you can’t choose the ship, the ship chooses you.
When you think back on your favorite ships, can you pinpoint a moment when you knew that this was your ship? When it comes to The Summer I Turned Pretty, I can. I knew the first moment that Belly described Conrad that was it. It was over for me. I wanted to look at someone that way and I wanted to feel something that deep. With every page that I read, I knew that I was Team Conrad.
It didn’t matter to me what mistakes Conrad made in his teenage years. We all react stupidly in our teenage years – well over our entire lives really. Watching Conrad make his mistakes, was a reminder of what happens when we keep pain in and how it manifests itself to anger.
Now that we’re on the last season – the last book – people are getting to see why Conrad has been the superior ship. Some can’t see past Jeremiah and have forgiven him for the things that he’s done. But that is their story to tell, their road to follow, and their ship to believe in.
Doesn’t mean that we can’t appreciate all of the online chatter that has come with The Summer I Turned Pretty and the discourse about who Belly should end up with. In the books, it is Conrad. In the show, who knows.
But the opinions are strong – over what Jeremiah did, over who Conrad was, and who Belly should choose. Well, if anyone at all.
Team Jelly has always been strong and the defenders of the character of Jeremiah Fisher have been loyal. But the first two episodes of this season have fans up in arms. Jeremiah cheated on Belly – TWICE. The first time that Jeremiah tripped and fell into someone elses body wasn’t big enough of a mistake to make.
It was then, the proposal at the hospital – no Jeremiah. You want to be in control and you’re using Belly’s moment of weakness to ask her to marry her? Trash. You were looking at a way to hang on versus growing from what you did.

This team Conrad Fisher person – me – is here for Jeremiah and Belly to not be together, but also I don’t want Jeremiah with Belly. He’s got so much growing up to do and he has to find himself. I say that because I don’t believe that Jeremiah Fisher knows who he is.
I know that it will hurt Belly and I don’t want that for her. I don’t want her to have any of the pain that she has. Belly deserved to know that love and trust could be something that she should and could believe in.

People can blame the writers for Jeremiah being in this space and do the things that he does. He’s always been this way. He’s always put himself first and for him it has been easy to do just that. Jeremiah plays the victim, but I wonder does he see that everyone around him are victims of his selfishness and manipulation.

The thing is Jeremiah made a lot of us realize that we can’t and we won’t ever deal with a man cheating on us. Yes, we know that people make mistakes, but a mistake would have been once.

Jeremiah is a coward. He’s a manipulative frat boy who doesn’t know how to be honest, because hanging onto Belly and not letting his brother win – that’s what matters to him.
Not honesty, trust, and commitment. Well, except when those actions can be used to hold onto Belly and make sure that he doesn’t have Karma hit him. He doesn’t want to have to watch Conrad and Belly together.
But lets be real- Belly has always loved Conrad and always will.

Let us be real – Conrad would walk through fire to make sure Belly wasn’t hurt. He would sacrifice his own heart and soul, as long as Belly was happy. He would rish loosing her if it meant telling her the truth to save her from pain.
Conrad Fisher isn’t perfect. He has made his share of mistakes and he knows that he has. He’s gotten help and he understands that grief and getting help working through ones issues a life long commitment.
Conrad Fisher wants to be better.
