In My Life With The Walter Boys Season 2, Episode 4, we’re examining change. And there is a lot of it. In life, I don’t think that anyone is actually really good with change. I think that a lot of the time, people are just good at hiding their aversion to change. They don’t understand that it is a positive thing that, well… things change. And I assure you that there is not a person in this show who is changing. It’s just what gets them there that may be the issue. But hey, when hasn’t My Life With The Walter Boys been complicated?
From the kids in the family to the parents, every single one of them has been set up for the beginning of life as they know it to be something else. Life in small towns – well, it’s just different. Everything that happens in a small town is somehow even bigger than it is in a big city. Why? Because everyone knows your business. It doesn’t matter if they know you or only know your name.
What matters to the people in small towns is your reputation and how you protect a way of life.
JUST TELL ME ALREADY
Cole has every right to be mad at Danny. Can you imagine what you would feel like if your brother dated your ex? And that he didn’t tell you? Ya, I would tear them apart. But Danny and Cole are different.
They are twins.
The bond for twins is different
Danny’s sleeping on the couch, and Cole is tired of it. He knows that Danny is seeing Erin, and he just wants his brother to tell him. But Danny is afraid, which is understandable. It’s a whole other level of weird when you are dating your brother’s ex.
Cole is angry, but I do think he was angry because he felt his brother betrayed him. Then there’s that whole second part of: am I not easy to talk to?
When Cole tells Danny he knows and that he saw them, you can see the color exiting Danny’s face. He went pale. The other brothers were getting involved – even though they shouldn’t have. They need to mind their own business.
But when you live in a house filled with a bunch of nosy people (aka family), everyone is going to have an opinion. Jackie does tell Danny when they are walking into school that Cole made her swear not to tell anyone, and she honored that promise.
Danny does tell her that she made the right decision. I respect that he understands what she did. Danny is a good guy, and he loves his family. Especially his brother.
CLASS PRESIDENT
If there is one thing that we do know, it is that Jackie is insanely smart. She is also very driven, organized, and innovative. While Grace is trying to hype her friend up, the current class president and her shrew walk into the locker room.
What I don’t understand is why all these people are trying to intimidate Jackie. Are you not confident in your decisions?
Paige and Ruby are truly the spawns of the devil. They have the worst attitudes, and I think that so many people have to realize that they don’t have to take their crap. They don’t need to be friends with them.
Jackie is one of those people who feels that she needs to impress Paige or prove her wrong. So hey, why not lie and say you hired a band when you haven’t done that and also have no money? Makes sense, right?
While Jackie and Grace are in PE class, and playing dodgeball – they are still talking about it. Paige is out for revenge, though, and throws the ball towards her as hard as she can. Jaws dropped when Alex dove in front of Jackie and took the hit.
I think that Alex was shocked too.
But feelings – well, they always bubble to the surface. They may confuse you, but they will be there.
TO THE BANDS WE GO
Jackie has a plan, and who better to find a band with than her bestie? I think we all have to appreciate that Grace is so innocent that a night out trying to find a band. She is so excited about all of the possibilities. Oh, to be young again.
They can’t find a band that they like, and the one that they do find, Jackie embarrasses herself by saying to the band that they want that she can get them booked at the Village Vanguard, not realizing that they’d already played there like 15 times.
I think that Jackie had to go through the whole process to remind herself of who she is and the things that need to be done for her to be happy. But it also comes with an acceptance that she doesn’t have to prove herself to anyone.
After the football game, she goes into the bathroom where she tries to just go on about her day, but Paige comes in talking a bunch of crap. It’s seeing Jackie standing up for herself and telling Paige off that she finds her footing.
Seeing her do that and say that she’s going to run? Here for it.
THE COLE OF IT ALL
Cole Walters is the man that it seems everyone wants to be with. But you’ll never convince me that he wants to be with anyone besides Jackie. You’ll also never convince me that he wants to do anything right now besides make himself better.
For himself.
Cole misses football, so for him, being a coach is as close as he can get. For him to be a coach and see that the guys aren’t taking this seriously is frustrating. He wants to be on the field, and when Dylan takes his chances for granted, Cole is the first to want his friend to get better.
But Dylan doesn’t want to. He wants to just act like he knows everything. That’s frustrating – especially when Dylan takes for granted the things that Cole had taught him.
He’s telegraphing his passes, and apparently, that is not good. Look, I know nothing about football, even growing up in a small town where the only thing to do on the weekend was go to games. Football is important to small towns.
They are playing their rivals – Aurelita. They come close to losing but walk away with the win, and everyone is excited. But Cole, it doesn’t feel how he thought it would.
I think for Cole, there was nothing that he loved more than football. He’s not good with all the life changes. He’s not good at not being seen.
THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE…
Katherine and George are just trying to live and do what is best for their ranch. They don’t want to lose it.
Richard is in town to try and help win over the town and get the permits. He’s used to the schmooze your way of doing things, but George and Katherine aren’t having that. They are of the mindset that they will speak to their neighbors.
They are such sweet summer children.
But I have to admire that Katherine – even after Bob and Jo removed their animal from her vet – decided to go to their house and try and talk to Joanne. She wants to explain what is happening, but he finds out that her friends have hired a lawyer.
A lawyer.
Katherine starts going off in the classiest way possible. She makes a good point – everything that they are acting against, none of them know the reasons. If you knew what they were going through, maybe you wouldn’t be so opposed.
But it’s when Katherine returns to her home and tells Richard to dust off his 9 iron (meaning they are gonna do it the New York way) that I started to smile. I love that Katherine is over everyone’s BS. She’s all about what can be done to move forward.
Family first. Friends sometimes are the worst.
Everyone who is not family can go elsewhere.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Alex and Blake are an awkward match, but a like attraction is where it is
- Alex and Blake line dancing – hard pass. They both looked so stiff. I was like, are they having fun?
- Where was Will? With Richard in town, I would have thought he’d be around
- I love the naive thoughts that all you have to do is talk to your friends to get them to support you. You shouldn’t have to talk to them – they should just know and support you
- Richard coming to spend time with Jackie is so cute – he loves her so much, even though he can’t be with her always
- Nathan needs to be careful – because what he’s doing with Zach – it’s flirting with fire.
- Zach needs to watch out because Skylar will come for him
- I can’t talk about that dance proposal that Skylar did at the football game. I am truly hiding under the covers
- Dylan’s Dad seems like a jerk
- Chapter 5, you say? Go Katherine.
- Cole is a good coach.
