There’s a sense of loss when a show finishes. What do you after you binge watch the latest season besides scroll through TikTok looking for fanvids, reading fanfiction, and checking out what other people think of the season online? That’s exactly how I felt after finishing Wednesday Season 2.
To help fellow viewers, and myself, I’ve put together a list of 7 shows like Netflix’s Wednesday to tide you over until Season 3 drops. And look, some of them might not seem obvious at first. But you’ve got to trust me on this. Wednesday is all about outcasts, supernaturals, magical schools, and the unknown. And these seven shows have that!
P.S. To figure out if these shows are available in your country, head over to Just Watch.
1. Supernatural
Why You Should Watch It: Supernatural in many ways is where my love for outcasts and the ‘things that go bump in the night’ began. I still remember randomly seeing the commercial for Season 1 on the CW and being hooked by the line of “Dad’s on a hunting trip… and he hasn’t been home in a few days.”
At the heart of this show are Dean and Sam, two brothers and outcasts themselves, who battle the supernatural. But as the seasons go on, they come to learn that there’s no one way to be a monster and that there’s more to this world than they ever knew. Also, the role they play in said world, it’s powerful.
Similar themes: Supernatural has all sorts of supernatural creatures, life or death situations, devastating sacrifices, and a ship with one of the biggest fan bases out there in the form of a hunter and an angel.

2. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Why You Should Watch It: Why you should watch it: While Supernatural started my love for the things that go bump in the night, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is a staple when it comes to supernatural shows. She was the chosen one who battled vampires, werewolves, and demons. But she was also just a girl. And the show never forgot that.
Buffy changed pop culture and gave us epic romances, heartbreak, and the kind of character development that you didn’t see in the 90s. It did drop off a little bit towards the end of the series. But you can’t deny the influence that this show has had when it comes to female characters on TV.
Similar themes: Of course, a similar theme would be all the monsters and whatnot on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But like Wednesday in Season 2, there’s plenty of investigation that goes on to actually solve the mystery of the spooky things happening. And Buffy doesn’t do it alone. Expect friendships and tragedy.
3. Legacies
Why You Should Watch It: Technically Legacies is a spin-off of The Originals, which is a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries. So there’s a lot of lore here. But the show manages to honor where it came from while welcoming new fans into their magic school and all the supernatural shenanigans that happen along the way for our lead Hope.
But TLDR, this show is about Hope, a uniquely gifted supernatural being. And like Miss Wednesday Addams, she has to deal with the ups and downs of her powers, teenage angst, and family issues. Pretty sure if these two met, they would be unstoppable.
Similar themes: Legacies has a bunch of supernatural shenanigans that often force the characters to choose between their teenage angst and saving the world. (They usually choose saving the world.) Expect complicated relationships and a divided fandom on who Hope should be with.
4. Teen Wolf
Why You Should Watch It: Teen Wolf is somehow the cheesiest show on this list but the dearest to my heart. It tells the story of a young werewolf named Scott, his best friend Stiles, and the pack that forms around them. Also it’s about a brooding werewolf named Derek who really deserves a break in life.
The show has plenty of teen angst, as expected. But the highlight of Teen Wolf, at least for me, is Dylan O’Brien’s Stiles. He managed to take the role of a sidekick and transform it into something so memorable that sometimes people like him more than the actual lead Scott. But that’s okay. Because this is about the bond between these two. And it gets complicated.
PS. If you start your Teen Wolf journey, do not watch the movie. We don’t consider that canon.
Similar themes: Of course, the instant similarity between Teen Wolf and Wednesday are the werewolves. And like Season 1 of our Netflix compatriot, the werewolves in Teen Wolf look very wonky in the beginning. You’ll have to forgive the CGI and get ready for some of the best fanfiction you’ve ever read.
5. The Legend of Korra
Why You Should Watch It: There’s something about the way that Wednesday and Enid are there for each other that reminds me of the relationship between Korra and Asami in The Legend of Korra. A sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, it tells the story of the next Airbender aka Korra. And years after watching, the one thing that I remember the most is the ship that changed TV and who everyone said wouldn’t happen.
When you look at Korrasami, the ship name for Korra and Asami, they didn’t start on the best terms. But when they came together, they were an unstoppable force. And when either of them fell to their lowest, they knew that the other one had their back. I just wish we had more of them. So if you start this journey, remember there are comics that continue the journey.
Similar themes: The legend of Korra has female best friends who have way too much chemistry to just be friends. Also expect dangerous enemies, amazing world building, and the bad guys underestimating women.
6. First Kill
Why You Should Watch It: Fair warning that First Kill was canceled after one season on Netflix. But it was unapologetically sapphic and supernatural that I need people to watch this. It was a little bit more mature than Wednesday. A little hotter too. But it was sapphic and had a Black lead. That should be celebrated.
First Kill tells the story of teens Juliette and Calliope, one being a vampire and the other one being a vampire hunter. Of course that leads to angst, heated gazes, and supernatural shenanigans. But again, it was sapphic. And it deserved a season two.
Similar themes: When it comes to similar themes, of course vampires come to mind. But this show also has a deep lore grounded in family and heritage that defines these teenagers and their families.
7. Bitten
Why You Should Watch It: Based on the Women of the Other World book series by author Kelly Armstrong, the Canadian TV series Bitten told the story of Elena, a female werewolf. But unlike other lore that you’ve heard when it comes to werewolves, she’s the only female werewolf in existence. So you know that’s going to cause angst and problems defining one’s identity.
Unlike Wednesday, Elena is desperate to escape the paranormal world. But it keeps following her no matter where she goes. And even though it’s been a bit since I watched Bitten, I remember how different and unique this show was even if the CGI was bad.
Similar themes: Werewolves of course are a similar theme in the same vein as Teen Wolf and other supernatural shows on this list. But Bitten is also a show about coming into your power, secrets, and forging your own path despite what others want you to do.
