There’s an elephant in the room in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 7 “Luceo Non Uro” that we haven’t even talked about yet. It’s Claire’s brother. Who is he? Did we meet him in Outlander? This latest episode of the prequel didn’t give us all the answers, but it did give us some pretty important clues.
Who is Claire’s Brother?

As we saw in Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 1 Episode 7 “Luceo Non Uro,” Henry and Julia’s son was born on July 5, 1714. Therefore, the baby would have been too young during the early Jacobite uprisings for Seer Maisri’s prophecy to come true. Because of this, we’re left with the only option that this prophecy referred to the rebellion in which Jamie and Claire participated.
Furthermore, although Julia secretly named the little boy William Henry, to the rest of the world, that baby is named Simon Fraser. Only Brian—and perhaps Davina—know the truth about his name. In Season 2 of Outlander, when Jamie and Claire visited Lord Lovat to ask for his support for the rebellion, they met Simon Fraser, the Young Fox, Lord Lovat’s son.
Could he be Claire’s brother? Well, everything points to it. In Dragonfly in Amber, the book by Diana Gabaldon on which Season 2 of Outlander is based, Claire mentions that Simon Fraser is around Jamie’s age. They are seven years apart, and that would fit with Claire’s observation.

Getting to Know Simon Fraser

The character is based on a real figure, and it wouldn’t be the first time Outlander has drawn inspiration from real people for its story. In the book, Simon Fraser encounters Jamie and Claire quite a bit during the Jacobite rebellion. During Jamie and Claire’s time there, Simon begins to respect Jamie greatly due to his vast knowledge of the war. He even helps Jamie retrieve his men from Lallybroch when they are arrested.
In Drums of Autumn, the fourth book in the series, Simon Fraser also appears. He survived Culloden but became a loner, without a home, family, or property. So, when the Redcoats were recruiting soldiers, he joined them and became a commander. As if that weren’t enough, although in the series Simon Fraser is presented as a redhead, in the books Claire describes him as having black hair and thick black eyebrows. A color he could have inherited from Julia…
In the series, Simon Fraser didn’t have as much of a role, but we can’t rule out his reappearance in Season 8 as an enemy of his own sister and her family, as they are said to be on opposing sides. And it wouldn’t be the first time Outlander has brought together seemingly unrelated puzzle pieces.
Of course, Claire’s brother may not have lived long enough to cross paths with his sister and Jamie. Or he may be a completely different person. But for now, our money is on Simon Fraser, the Young Fox, and yours?
