Sometimes “scheduling conflicts” lead to something better and we don’t take that for granted. When it happens that better casting comes along, we know that is a rare thing and therefore one must get excited over it. The adaptation of Deep Cuts was originally due to star Saoirse Ronan and Austin Butler and that was great. Scheduling conflicts made the two have to back out of the adaptation.
Don’t get us wrong, the two are amazing actors. But if we’re being honest, we weren’t sad that the two dropped out of the movie. We had trouble imagining the two in the part. It did mean that we were wondering when anyone else would be cast and if the adaptation would be moving forward.
And it is. Cailee Spaeny and Drew Starkey have signed on to the adaptation of Holly Brickley novel Deep Cuts. The two have worked with A24 on a few projects and so we do believe that the studio knows that the two will deliver and deliver well.
The book, by Holly Brickley, is about two music obsessed 20 somethings that are navigating friendship, love, ambition and belonging. The story takes place during a defining time in the indie music scene.
Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Blake Mills will create original music. We always love when that happens – the whole original music thing. New songs to learn.
Now if you’re asking yourself when you will get to see Deep Cuts, production will kick off February 2026.
