We’re back! The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 ‘Fast Andy’ finally shows us Chenford’s domestic bliss as they find their rhythm at work, brings back Wopez, and puts Nolan’s teaching methods—and Miles’ decisions—to the test. Ready?
Here we go!
New Responsibilities

Chenford are a joy to watch in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 ‘Fast Andy’! It’s understandable that Lucy is a little sad to be leaving her apartment behind. So many memories, so much lived within those four walls…but now something new is beginning with the love of her life, and that excites her as much as it excites us.
The point is that they are finding their rhythm, at work and outside of it. They have to adapt to their new roles and be professional while on duty. But the line blurs easily when they’re together. It’s inevitable. But beyond the flirting, what we love most is the communication between them.
It’s refreshing to see them so open with each other in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 ‘Fast Andy.’ When Tim lost his job due to Grey’s return, Lucy quickly reached out to him, checking in on him and wanting to know how he was doing. Tim was honest with her. It wasn’t an easy situation for him, feeling like he’d done something wrong, but he was handling it.
And when Lucy was having a tough night coordinating everything, Tim was there supporting her and respecting her boundaries. Lucy needed to do this on her own, to prove to herself that she could. So she didn’t want Tim’s help. Lucy knew it would be too easy for him to take over because he’d been doing that job for years, but this had to be her job. And Tim respected that. He respected her space and her time, just as she respected his. And then they went home together after a difficult day, closer than ever.
That, and the way they make time for each other even amidst chaos, shows the growth of their relationship. One that has become unbreakable.

Lessons Learned…

Tim’s new position in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 ‘Fast Andy’ makes Miles Nolan’s rookie…and they didn’t get off to a good start. Frankly, the show didn’t take the time to portray Nolan as a good mentor. Yes, he gave Celina some advice here and there, but if she got where she is, it was because of her instinct and natural talent, not Nolan. Even though the series gives him all the credit.
So, if you ask us, we don’t think Nolan is a good instructor. And we understand that he wanted to give Miles space to make his own mistakes and learn from them. We think he should have told Miles that Fast Andy wasn’t a good confidant. But, playing devil’s advocate, Nolan has a point in what he says to Tim and Miles. Tim can’t undermine Nolan’s authority, nor can he force him to do things his way.
Nolan has his own teaching method, as we saw in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 2 ‘Fast Andy,’ and if Miles is his rookie, it’s Nolan who should decide how to teach him. Following that line of thought, just as Tim has no say in how Nolan decides to teach his rookie, neither does Miles. It’s Miles’ job to adapt to his instructor and learn everything he teaches, regardless of his methods.
That said, we think Tim has a point that if Nolan sees his rookie is about to make a big mistake, he shouldn’t let him. He should explain why it’s a mistake and then give him space to think of something more appropriate. It’s not about giving him the solution, but it’s also not about leaving him alone. And we think that’s what Miles meant when he told Nolan he needed more guidance from him. So yes, the solution lies somewhere in between because all three have a point.
