Broken Trust in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man’

In Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man,’ Oliver breaks down. He’s been pretending everything is fine for a while now, but he has too much on his plate. First, his father abandon him, just when he was ready to reconnect with him. Oliver thought that knowing Sofia could find out why he did it. But she doesn’t have the answers he needs. Only his father does.
Then, Oliver discovered that Charlie wasn’t who he claimed to be. He came to destroy him. And his true identity stirred up the guilt of not having saved Charlie’s mother. A guilt that resurfaces even more when Sofia confronts him for abandoning her. And Charlie’s continued presence also makes Oliver nervous. Now that he’s revealed his true identity, why is he still part of his team? Is he willing to forgive him, or is he just waiting for the right moment to destroy him? Oliver doesn’t know. All he does know is that he can’t trust him.
And that’s another blow for Oliver: in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man,’ he doesn’t feel he can trust anyone on his team except Erika. Jacob and Markus are gone, Charlie lied to him for months, and Dana… well, she almost got her best friend fired and lost her job. It’s not a betrayal Oliver can easily forgive, even if Carol did.
Oliver truly cares about his interns, despite his attempts to hide it. And for Dana to do something like that, for someone important to him to hurt his best friend… that’s something he can’t forget. He can’t trust her again as if nothing happened, but he also can’t listen to her—even though he should—because he feels that if he does, he’ll explode with Dana in a way that will be irreversible.

The Catharsis

As if that weren’t enough, there’s Josh. Oliver still loves him, and it hurts to see him with Beau, the intimacy they share, and above all, it hurts that Josh chooses Beau over him. Not only in that hyperbolic machine in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man,’ but long before. Josh chose to go back to Beau rather than fight for Oliver. As if Oliver were so lost that it wasn’t worth trying.
But nothing could be further from the truth. When Josh couldn’t think, only feel, it was Oliver’s name that escaped his lips. Because he still loves him. And Beau knew it. In that moment, he knew. Then Josh pretended again that he had forgotten about Oliver and that their relationship had no future, so he moved on, and Beau chose to believe it because it’s easier than facing the truth.
So, both are in denial. But they can’t hide the truth. Oliver is a ghost in their relationship, one they can’t exorcise because, no matter how complicated Oliver is, no matter how hard is to break down his walls, Josh loves him. And Josh can’t have a future with anyone but Oliver. But we haven’t reached that point. For now, in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man,’ Josh remains determined to deny what he truly feels, destroying himself and Oliver in the process.
And finally, there’s Carol. She was always his best friend, but Oliver feels their friendship has fractured. He feels that distance and doesn’t want to be like this. Not with her. So Oliver finally breaks down and unburdens himself to Carol. As he always did. Finally, everything he’d been keeping inside, pretending wasn’t even there, has come crashing down on him. And he can’t take it anymore.
His life shattered piece by piece. All his pillars, his foundations… are gone. There’s no ground beneath his feet, and Oliver feels like he’s falling and drowning, and he doesn’t know what to do to get out of it. To get better. In Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man,’ Carol listens to him, hugs him, holds him, just like she always did. Because she would do anything for him. But, for the moment, Oliver just needs to feel that she’s there. Right by his side. Like always. And yeah, we shed a tear during this scene.

Other Stuff in Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 14 ‘The Invisible Man’

- The twist about Sofia left us speechless! Is she a figment of Oliver’s imagination? Someone his mind created to cope with the trauma? We need to know!
- We love you, Silva.
- We give Erika a standing ovation. She really put Charlie in his place. A grudging apology doesn’t erase the fact that he treated them like garbage, thought he was better than them, and deceived them for months.
- Although it’s good to know he’s sorry. Hopefully, he’ll change his attitude, at least with them.
- Oliver was very curt with Dana…but we understand.
- Oliver would do anything for Josh.
- It really hurt when Josh chose Beau to accompany him in that chamber.
- And also when he didn’t consider him to run the hospital alongside Carol.
- Finally, someone told Thorne what she deserves.
- Everyone should have a friend like Carol.
- We’re happy for Josh’s new position! He deserves it.
Brilliant Minds Season 2 airs on Mondays at 10 pm ET on NBC.
I found the love triangle of Oliver/Josh/Beau the most interesting topic in episode 14, season 2. Even though it seems inevitable that Josh will return to Oliver, I feel badly for Beau because he seems quite a decent person.
