Rhiannon Fish is a girls girl. Speaking with her, you can’t help but feel like you are just talking to your bestie and that’s part of what makes talking to her so fun. She’s down to earth, motivated, and filled with charisma.
We spoke to Fish for her movie, He Loves Me Not. The movie is about a rising actress scores her big break when she’s chosen to play a character on a reality TV dating show. Using a secret elixir to win the heart of the star, her deception is revealed, right as she discovers she’s fallen in love.
Here’s what we learned about the actress.
She’s a hybrid
We thought that we would hear an Australian accent in the movie, because we thought she was Australian. But Fish called herself a “hybrid” as she was born in Canada, grew up in Australia, and then moved back to Canada. She calls Australia home.
SHE’S A SCHWARTZ GIRLIE
He Loves Me Not is based around a reality television show, so we had to ask if she likes reality television. She didn’t hesitate to answer.
She said, “My favorite show is Vanderpump Rules. I think for me, I excuse, I give myself permission because sometimes I think it’s a fascinating character study. I know a lot of it’s scripted, but there are moments that aren’t when you can see people in very vulnerable places, where, goodness, if it was scripted and they were acting, they would be Academy Award-level performances. I like to see people be very vulnerable, and I think you can see a lot of that sometimes in reality TV. I like it, but I completely understand why people don’t.”
THAT SMALL PLANE IN THE MOVIE TERRIFIED HER
If you’ve seen the movie, you will know that in part of it the two leads go on a date, and it’s in this small plane. The shots that they got were beautiful, but we had to ask about being in there. The plane looked terrifying.
She said, “I hate that small airplane. That airplane, I was scared to death on that stupid airplane. They had things that were taped to the ceiling. The door had a little bit of sticky tape holding it closed. I swear they had to weigh each of us before we got on. That was one of the moments where I was like– because you hear about accidents happening all the time, particularly on film sets. I was like, “This is it. This is where I die.” I was truly scared to death on that stupid airplane, and it was my least favorite part of the movie. However, I will obviously acknowledge the shots are beautiful, but terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.”
Her favorite romantic comedy
Silver Linings Playbook. Yes, you read that right, her favorite romantic comedy is Silver Linings Playbook.
We have to admit that we hadn’t thought about that movie as a romantic comedy, but everything is subjected. So we said, in response to it, “It’s like asking if Die Hard is a Christmas movie.”
“Exactly. That’s the same question. I love that one. I just adore Jennifer Lawrence. I can’t get enough of her. That was one that I found– Yes, I absolutely loved that movie.”
She LOVES BEING A FAN
We once used to ask everyone we interviewed what the were a fan of. When speaking to Fish, we had to ask, because it seemed like we were the same person. We like the same things.
She said, “I really love the whole concept of being a fan of anything. I think it’s really wonderful. If I love something, and I think you’re probably similar, if I love something, I’m going to love it with my whole heart and I’m going to be so loud about it. I don’t even really fully believe in guilty pleasures. I think if you just love what you love, and if it brings you joy, particularly in this world, I think that that’s wonderful.”
She loves The Vampire Diaries
When we continued the conversation around what she was a fan of, she said that she loved vampire shows and we freaked out when her favorite was ours. She said, “We should just love what we love. I love vampire shows. I’m a huge fan of all of them, but particularly The Vampire Diaries. Did you like Vampire Diaries?”
We shook our head yes, before she continued, “I was obsessed. The show’s been over for a long time now, but my algorithm is full of The Vampire Diaries. I just love it. I can’t not watch a clip of it. I thought it was fantastic. I loved their spin-offs as well. The originals was fantastic. Vampires, that’s what I fangirl over.”
She appreciates therapy
Several times during our conversation we spoke about therapy and we both appreciated our love for therapy. She said, “I’m now almost 35, so I finally feel that I am coming to peace with who I am. For a lot of the time growing up, I felt like I wasn’t enough just as I was, that I had to, I guess, in a way, pretend to be someone else in order for people to like me. That is so freaking exhausting.”
She then continued, “Then through a lot of therapy, I worked on, first of all, finding where that comes from, and then stripping that all the way. Then I have now come to realize that, generally speaking, if you are your true authentic self, you are going to attract the greatest people, and they are really going to love you more than they ever would have if you were pretending to be someone else.”
We could not agree more.
She loves Hallmark
Rhiannon is a Hallmark staple and we definitely need more of her on the channel. She loves the channel just as much as we do, “I feel like I found this wonderful pocket at Hallmark in particular, where, fingers crossed, it’s just a matter of time until another script will come my way.”
And then continued, “As I repeatedly say, this is just a network that I really want to plant my feet at. I love Hallmark. That said, I also love still being in a place where I can take these jobs over in Australia, and we can make these sort of a little bit raunchier, a little bit sexy sort of films. Yes. I feel like I’m in a really good place, and I’m very excited to see whatever comes my way next.”
Who do we have to campaign to in order to see her in more Hallmark movies, because we’d love that.
