Hope. Hope is strange because it makes you look forward to something, but it can also feel a little like it strangles ones soul. You see, because on the other side of hope is taking a chance and that may be one of the most terrifying things ever. Yet, when it comes to hope, it’s when you give it a chance that you can also find one of the most rewarding things.
A step forward.
At the beginning of the season, When Calls The Heart, left us with a lot of confusion, fear, and also freedom. But what it quickly taught us was hope, community, and legacy were all there. It mattered that the park burned down – yes, it did. It mattered that it changed everyones life. That being said, what if the people of Benson Hills and Hope Valley hadn’t come together? How different would their lives have been?

We’re getting fed a lot in this episode – a lot of closure, new beginnings, and also change. The show managed to feed us the proposal that we’ve all been waiting for (yay Nathan and Elizabeth), someone finally acknowledged the feelings that Oliver and Allie have for each other, and Lucas finally put his heart before working all the time. We get to see everyone taking steps forward in ways that feel so completely natural and important to the story.
It’s the time for the Harvest Festival. They are also using this as a way to say goodbye to the people from Benson Hills. Elizabeth has asked the kids to write what they have gained. Even though they lost a lot because of the fire, what did they gain? New friends? A new community?
The kids weren’t sure that they were ready to go back, which I do get. Change isn’t easy for the oldest of people. It definitely can’t be easy for the young kids. They will miss their friends and their new way of life. Then it’s the fear of what they are going home to.
Personally, I am going to miss Gwen next season. She’s made the Coulters better people and be a part of their family. Her saying goodbye was heartbreaking, but you could also tell how much she loved being with the Coulters also.

Angela being back in the valley was a good thing. Not only was a part of the Canfield family back to celebrate Minnie, Angela was needed for others in the community too. Allie needed her. Having your best friend back to make you realize that you’re in love with someone – well nothing like that. Allie may not notice that Oliver and her are meant to be, or that she has feelings for him – but everyone else does. I appreciated Angela calling it out.
The Canfields needed to celebrate all the good things in life together. There has been a lot of change for them and they’ve found their way through all of the trials and tribulations. In the end – this family is so important to Hope Valley and I do hope that they see that.
It’s the festival that brought everyone together and made them face the feelings that they have for others and the goals that they have for themselves.
Lucas isn’t going to run again. He wants to wrap up his term and he wants to be with his woman. Lucas is putting himself on the line for love. I love that he finally got out of his own way and is willing to meet someone in the middle. He’s endorsed Maisie for governor. He probably should have asked her if she wanted to run first.

The Coulters saying goodbye to Gwen – that makes them feel like they are loosing a child. They’ll see her again soon. I do feel for Goldie to have to go without Gwen on the daily, because she’s grown accustom to her.
Nathan figured out a way for LJ to see the valley. He made it so that it would be safe for him to climb to the top of the water tower and see all that Hope Valley has to offer.
Nathan has made changes this episode. He’s stopped trying to have a plan to propose to Elizabeth and just propose when the time is right. And when he does find times, everything keeps interrupting. But then when those two climb to the top of the tower, and he does. He proposes in a beautiful way.
Filled with so much love and joy.

Relationships have changed, people have grown and new things have been set up for the second season. And that cliffhanger. Oh that cliffhanger.
I think we all knew it was going to end on that cliffhanger. I think we all knew that we’re going to have to wait for a bit and maybe next season will end with the wedding we’ve all been waiting for. While there are a lot of maybes, one thing is for certain – this season of When Calls The Heart has been a beautiful, peaceful, and sometimes chaotic roller coaster ride.
And I have to say that at the end of the day, I’ll get on that ride over and over again.
