We’re back! In The Rookie Season 8 Episode 12 ‘Spy Games,’ the team focuses on saving Bailey from a major threat… only for it all to end rather predictably. Meanwhile, Wesley is struggling with his campaign, and Monica is the only one who can help him, which leads us to uncover something unexpected about his past. Ready?
Here we go!
The Price of Justice

We have to admit that The Rookie Season 8 Episode 12 ‘Spy Games,’ fooled us for a bit. We thought Wesley cheated on Angela, and it gave us a mini heart attack. Not to mention a massive fit of rage. Because that would be completely out of character for Wesley and wouldn’t make sense. Luckily, we rewatched the scene and understood what it really happening.
We remember that Wesley and Monica had something going on, and he cheated on her. And this makes more sense. We still can’t imagine Wesley cheating on anyone now. But we saw him fall in love with Angela, so we have that image of him in our heads and we know he would never cheat on her.
But before her? That’s another story. Wesley is human and, as such, he made mistakes. The point is, as we see in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 12 ‘Spy Games,’ it really hurt her. Monica seems cold and calculating—and she is—but she felt something for Wesley. Something real. He broke her heart…and never apologized for it.
And that’s what Monica needed: an apology.
What happened between them may be in the past, but Monica had that thorn in her heart. She just wanted Wesley to acknowledge his mistake and apologize for it. To recognize the pain he caused her and that she didn’t deserve what he did. When Wesley sincerely apologized, Monica made that video. She had no reason not to.
What happened between her and Wesley was in the past, and she knew he loves Angela. In The Rookie Season 8 Episode 12 ‘Spy Games,’ Monica just needed Wesley to look her in the eyes and see how he trampled on her heart and understand that he hadn’t treated her right. She deserved better. And her pain mattered. Monica knew him and knew that when Wesley apologized, when he acknowledged his mistakes, he meant it.
Wesley was sincere, and that was all Monica asked of him. She wasn’t going to punish him for something that was in the past. For once, Monica didn’t want revenge, but justice…and she got it. And we love seeing that, despite everything, Monica does have a heart. She pleasantly surprised us with this and is once again our favorite shady lawyer!

Other Stuff in The Rookie Season 8 Episode 12 ‘Spy Games’

- We understand that Angela won’t use that material against Vivian. She’s a good person and the guilt would have eaten her up. But the woman deserved it, though.
- We love that Angela didn’t distrust Wesley for a second.
- We knew Bailey was going back to LA. But then, why introduce the Washington subplot? Why treat her like a cop when she’s a firefighter? This was a complete waste of time from beginning to end. We’re right back where we started.
- That AI is pretty scary…
- They used Elijah very cleverly. We like it.
- Tim hitting on a guy in the elevator. Hot!
- Chenford flirting at work and Tim being protective will never go out of style.
- But the best part is domestic Chenford. Insert heart eyes emoji here.
- We needed to know more about Lucy’s process of getting over what happened with Marvin. You don’t go from how Lucy was in the previous episode to acting like nothing happened. But the show wasted time on a ridiculous subplot about Bailey. We said what we said.
- Lucy is right. Screw traditions! If Tim wants to be a Watch Commander doing fieldwork, let him.
- We love that Luna and Grey are willing to fight for their marriage. And that includes having some tough conversations about what was already wrong between them. It’s a huge step that Luna is giving Grey the space and time he needs to have that conversation. And that Grey, for his part, is acknowledging that it’s not fair to blame Luna completely when things were already bad between them…and that wasn’t just her fault.
- Miles’s motorcycle? Wow!
