Ever since a future version of her tried to save her dad from the Man in Yellow’s murderous hands in the FROM Season 3 finale, fans have known that Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) is definitely a storywalker. It’s not just all in her head. At some point, she might even be able to decide which part of the story she revisits. (Either that, or she just happened upon Jim’s death, which would be a major, painful coincidence.) In FROM Season 4 Episode 4, though, her attempt to create a bookmark so she can control her powers doesn’t seem to work. When we interviewed Cheramy, the obvious first question was how does that failure affect what comes next.
“I think that moment is actually such a pivotal moment for Julie,” Cheramy told us, adding that “it kind of rewires her brain and how she thinks about where she’s at and what she can do.” Julie was initially “so determined” and “really believed that this was going to happen. And then it completely…failed her.” So, for Cheramy, “I think that that kind of like makes her take a couple steps back and be like, ‘what am I—what am I doing?’ And also, of course, Randall in Episode 5, I believe, like snapping at her…it really does put her back in her place of [wondering], ‘what am I doing? What—…is this actually worth it?'”
But, again, this is the rare situation where viewers actually know something for sure that the people in FROMville don’t. Because Julie can do this—and already did! Now that Julie has revisited a well-known scene from an earlier season (and edits comparing the storywalk to the original night stuck in the camper have popped up all over social media), is there anything we should plan on rewatching next? Cheramy couldn’t confirm or deny anything specific, but she did have this to say: “…now that we know that she could theoretically go anywhere, I think people will look very closely at…a bunch of different scenes.” So, uh, get to work, FROMily detectives.
In the meantime, for viewers who want to know some of the thought process that went into Julie’s storywalking scenes, here’s what Hannah Cheramy shared: “It’s really interesting for me because Julie is obviously in…two places at once. So, I…took a lot of…work in myself to figure out while she’s storywalking, does she feel anything that her body’s feeling? Because her body is convulsing on…rocks and the ground.” The actress also questioned “does it feel like an out of body experience—does it feel like she’s in a different reality? …is there a lightness to her, like, or a tingly sensation, [or] anything in that that has a different feeling? So, I definitely did a lot of work into that to sort of figure out what that is for her.”

Oh. And the final word on when we’ll see Julie get some of that confidence back? “I think you’ve got to wait for Season 5.”
