If there is one thing that we know very well, it’s Hallmark movies. Though we’ve been on a little bit of a review break, we have to admit that we’re going back into watching one today for one reason and one reason only.
Brennan Elliott is back.
The actor’s 32nd Hallmark movie, A Castle of Our Own, premiered last night, and this writer didn’t know. The movie is about “an overworked architect takes an unexpected summer trip, a sandcastle contest, and a contractor help her reconnect with her daughter, rediscover joy, and find love she never saw coming.”
Brennan stars as the contractor.
The actor spoke to People about returning to work after his wife’s passing after a nine-year battle with gastric cancer. In the movie, his character feels stuck after a breakup that destroyed his faith in love.
“I was stuck also,” Elliott said. “It’s tough to move forward when certain things happen to you, but you’ve got to keep plugging away. I feel like this is the next chapter of my life.”
The actor opened up about his grief journey, saying, “Through therapy, I’m realizing I just needed to heal. I needed to spend some quiet time letting myself feel all the feelings I was feeling. To sit and channel those feelings and talk about them is impossible until you’re calm and grounded. That happened for me in probably February this year. So that’s almost 11 months of a tough grind. … And I feel like I’m starting to live again.”
He continued, “I’ve gone through the stages of grief. I’ll always grieve her. I mean, she was my wife, the love my life, the mother of my children, but I can hear her in my head telling me, ‘This is when your career’s going to go and you’re really going to be happy and fun.’ … Now I’m coming to set as a blank canvas. I’m really embracing and enjoying the process and the journey.”
Elliott has always been so kind and giving to us. We’re thinking of him in his journey and embracing life moving forward. His wife will always live in his heart, and whatever the journey, we know he’ll have the strength and grace he’s always shown the world. And well, hopefully the world shows him.
