One Chicago is coming! And, after Chicago Med, Chicago P.D. is the next one we already have some details about, and we can’t wait to know more! So, if you don’t want to miss anything, here’s everything we know about Chicago P.D. Season 14.
The Cast:
Fortunately, almost the cast members are returning for Chicago P.D. Season 14! So expected returning main cast members include:
- Jason Beghe as Sergeant Hank Voight
- Marina Squerciati as Detective Kim Burgess
- Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek
- Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres
- Amy Morton as Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt
- Arienne Mandi as Officer Eva Imani
However, there is one member of the original cast who will not coming back. LaRoyce Hawkins, who has played Officer Kevin Atwater since the show premiered, is leaving the series. His storyline will reportedly be wrapped up within the first two or three episodes of Season 14.
We still don’t know exactly how Atwater will leave Intelligence, but the show has certainly given us plenty of possibilities. His relationship with fellow cop Tasha Fox resulted in an unexpected pregnancy, and Tasha eventually agreed to return to Chicago and give their relationship a real chance. She had previously revealed that she hated living in Miami, which made returning to Chicago and trying to build a life with Atwater seem like the obvious next step.
But what if their future takes them somewhere else?
One possibility is that Atwater and Tasha decide to leave Chicago and move back to Florida, or perhaps somewhere closer to their families so they have more support once the baby arrives. Another option is that Atwater decides to walk away from policing altogether. With a baby on the way, choosing a safer career could make a lot of sense for him.
And then there’s the most romantic possibility. Could Atwater finally make things official with Tasha and propose?
Showrunner Gwen Sigan has made it clear that, at this point, the show is keeping all possibilities open. So while we don’t know what Atwater’s final storyline will look like, it seems safe to say that pretty much anything could happen during his final episodes.
Whatever happens, Atwater’s departure is going to mark the end of a major chapter for Chicago P.D. He has been part of the show from the beginning, so saying goodbye to him after 13 seasons is going to be a big deal.
And if you need good news after this, Jesse Lee Soffer is returning as a director! BTS photos show Soffer back on set to direct Season 14, episode 2. And there are no changes in the behind-the-scenes team. In addition to Dick Wolf, executive producers are Gwen Sigan, Chad Saxton, Gavin Harris, Jason Beghe and Peter Jankowski. The show is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.
Who is joining Chicago P.D. Season 14?
With Atwater leaving, Intelligence will need another new face. Chicago P.D. is adding a new series-regular character to help fill the gap, and the early description is intriguing. The new character is a Black police officer who is being described as an “agent of chaos.”
We don’t know much else about the character yet, including how exactly they will fit into Intelligence or what kind of dynamic they’ll have with Voight and the rest of the team. But bringing in someone specifically described as an agent of chaos certainly suggests that Season 14 could shake things up in a major way.

The Plot:
We don’t have an official synopsis for Season 12 yet, but we know the new season will pick up the characters after the end of Season 13. In the finale, Voight and Eva discover that Shari’s ADN is on the body of a young woman who was found dead. That means Shari could now face murder charges, leaving Eva and Voight with an impossible decision heading into Season 14.
The aftermath of that discovery is going to be one of the biggest storylines of the new season. Showrunner Gwen Sigan has teased that the new season will reveal what Voight and Imani ultimately decided to do that night and, perhaps more importantly, what the consequences of that decision will be.
The central question is whether they will cover up the evidence and allow Shari to avoid facing the consequences, or whether they will let the case move forward as it normally would. And that decision becomes even more complicated because Shari is clearly a damaged woman who needs help.
If Voight and Imani choose to bury what they know, they’re putting a secret on Eva’s shoulders, one that she’ll have to carry while trying to rebuild her relationship with her sister. And there’s another question waiting for Eva now that the search that has consumed so much of her life is finally over: What does her life look like when finding Shari is no longer the thing driving her?
Things are changing for Adam Ruzek and Kim Burgess, too. The couple is entering a new chapter after Ruzek’s father struggled with Alzheimer’s and ultimately died. At the same time, they made a major move because of their daughter Makayla’s new school, meaning there’s already a lot of change happening in their personal lives.
According to Sigan, the married couple is essentially in a transition period, and Season 14 will give them plenty of room to grow and evolve. That could mean some big changes for Ruzek and Burgess as they figure out what this next stage of their lives looks like.
