When it comes to book adaptations we have ones that we’re really excited for and a lot of those revolve around romance books. Give us romance books and give us action and we are sat. Give us adaptations like Off Campus, Every Year After, and well the upcoming adaptation of Lauren Asher’s Throttled. Just give us all things Prime Video at this point.
Amazon MGM Studios is not playing around these days. They are feeding the romance community by adapting so many books that are loved. The latest – the first book in Lauren Asher’s Dirty Air series, Throttled. And they’ve cast a name that will make Off Campus fans scream. The streaming service announced earlier this month that Josh Heuston, had been cast as Noah Slade.
But now, we have another casting.
A CULPA MIA STAR
Nicole Wallace has landed the female lead role opposite Josh Heuston. She will be playing Maya Alatorre, an ambitious young woman who joins her brother on the racing circuit and falls into a forbidden, high-stakes romance with her brother’s ruthless teammate and fiercest racing rival, Noah Slade.
Wallace’s credits include Culpa Mia and The House of Spirits, and she will next be seen in Amazon MGM’s Postcards From Italy. We have to admit that thought we’re looking forward to Postcards from Italy, seeing her in Throttled is now what we’re looking forward to the most.
Of Throttled, Nicole said, “Maya is smart and ambitious and I’m really excited to step into her world. She is born into this sport full of speed and rivalry and, as a woman, has to learn to stand her ground and learn the ropes. I’m super excited to work with Josh and Nzingha and for audiences to feel the rush of this world.”
BEHIND THE SCENES
Nzingha Stewart will be directing the project. Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are producing along with Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay. Garrett Grant is also producing, with Alison Small of Brownstone Productions and Asher executive producing.
Ethea Entertainment is definitely making a name for themselves in the world of romance and adaptations. Gibgot and Panay of Ethea recently produced The Last Sunrise, Prime’s film adaptation of Anna Todd‘s bestselling romance novel, after producing the After films also based on Todd’s books. Most recently, they set up House of Crowns, a romance series in early development at Amazon MGM, based on a forthcoming novel from Todd.
Melissa Osborne, who wrote Prime Video’s My Fault: London has adapted the book.
Lauren Asher has sold more than five million books worldwide and the Dirty Air series being translated into 14 languages. In addition to Throttled (2020) – the series also includes Collided (2020), Wrecked (2020) and Redeemed (2021).
Amazon MGM Studios has landed worldwide distribution rights for the film, which will be available in more than 240 countries and territories on Prime Video.
