Apple TV’s Foundation is coming to Apple TV+ on September 24th, and as an Asimov fan, I’m here to tell you that if you’ve enjoyed any sci-fi property in the last 70+ years, you probably need to thank Foundation for its existence, and yes, give this show a try. Asimov’s work has inspired, in some way, shape or form, properties as varied as Star Wars, Star Trek, Dune and even The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
You could say it’s a big deal. Just as the names that are bringing this story to life are a big deal: Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, Leah Harvey, Laura Birn, Terrence Mann, Cassian Bilton and Alfred Enoch.
The synopsis for the series reads as follows:
When revolutionary Dr. Hari Seldon predicts the impending fall of the Empire, he and a band of loyal followers venture to the far reaches of the galaxy to establish The Foundation in an attempt to rebuild and preserve the future of civilization. Enraged by Hari’s claims, the ruling Cleons — a long line of emperor clones — fear their unrivaled reign may be weakening as they’re forced to reckon with the potential reality of losing their powerful legacy forever.
But hey, you might be more of a visual person, so here’s the full trailer:
Okay, so NOW are you with me? Because this promises to have everything, the big scope, the emotional character beats, and hopefully, the storytelling that made Asimov’s work such an inspiration.
The first season of Foundation will exclusively hit Apple TV+ worldwide on September 24, 2021 with the first two episodes available, followed by one new episode weekly, every Friday. Will you be watching?
