You’re invited to the party in the first official teaser trailer for The Decameron. First published in the 14th century, Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron is a story about nobles and servants outside of Florence during the plague. To pass the time they tell stories that, according to Netflix, range from witty to debauched. Now thanks to creator Kathleen Jordan (Teenage Bounty Hunters), we’re going to get to explore this wild exploration of class as the liquor dries up and survival becomes a top priority. And if there’s anyone that’s going to understand this series, it’s going to be everyone who just went through the last pandemic.
One of the most recognizable faces in the first trailer for The Decameron is Saoirse-Monica Jackson. Jackson played Erin Quinn in Derry Girls. That series has seen a resurgence of interest in the last year due to Nicola Coughlan being the romantic lead in Bridgerton season 3. In addition, there’s been more interest in the show because Louisa Harland who played Orla McCool has a new series on Disney+ titled Renegade Nell. Back to Jackson. She’ll play Misia, “the codependent servant of Pampinea.” According to Netflix, she adores her demanding master and derives her self-worth from pleasing her. Pampinea it’s also played by a recognizable face, Zosia Mamet from Girls. She plays the soon to be lady of the villa that the cast of characters is hiding out at. And from the trailer and photos shared by Netflix, she’s giving Orla vibes with a dash of desperation that is very much James from Derry Girls.
In the teaser trailer you can see Jackson at the 13 second mark, her hand up to her mouth shushing someone. This happens as the teaser trailer shows a bunch of rich people having a good time, eating, drinking, and having sex. You also see her at 24 seconds in the embrace of another woman from behind.
