With Fall TV back, we’re ready for our lives to be reprioritized and our rear ends to take a seat on the couch Sunday through Thursday night. One of the shows that we were looking forward to the return of was Younger, and it’s back with a vengeance? But was it’s season premiere everything that we wanted it to be?
Short answer: Kinda and yet nope.
Look, we love Younger and are kind of thrilled that we get to see the next steps in Liza’s journey. If you aren’t familiar with the show – you should binge watch the first two seasons. Here’s the premise – 40 something in need of a job and no prospects, pretends that she’s in her 20’s in order to get the job of her dreams.
“A Kiss is Just a Kiss” starts where the last season ended. We’re seeing Liza have her normal breakdown, except she’s hiding her kind of crazy really well – because she’s sending the love of her life – her daughter – back to school. Josh shows up with some donuts and we’re drooling. Not for the donuts – but for the fact that his hotness is in it for the long run. Dropping Caitlin off, she meets her daughters friend and her parents.
And as we know in TV history – it’s never good when you meet the parents in any show. For Liza, her daughters friends parents will prove another shit show moment in her life.
When at the office, Liza runs into Charles and for the first time – our hearts melt and we’re thinking we’re going to switch teams. Sorry Josh – Charles has that Mr. Darcy look on his face. You can tell that there is something there, but what – we’re not sure. Because Liza is so indecisive with her life – we’re not banking on anything. But when Charles invites her to meet him so they can talk, we see that Liza isn’t sure what she wants. Why? Because Josh texts her at the same time and she tells him that she’s busy and agrees to meet up with Charles.
But remember that shit show we were talking about? When Liza heads to meet Charles – the parents of Cailtin’s friends are talking to him. Turns out the Dad is Charles lawyer. Oops. Liza goes running out the door and texts Charles that she can’t show up.
She gets a text message from Kelsey to meet her at a bar – cause she needs help with Diana. Diana is Liza’s boss and she’s well… had one too many. Though, we’re interested to know if the bar is real, because it looks like the best bar in Manhattan.
Diana needs to get drunk more often, cause she loosens the hell up when she’s had some alcohol. The girls take her back to her apartment – and can we talk about how amazing that closet is? Cause we would do about anything for that closet. BEAUTIFUL. Diana throws her wedding dress out the window – which we can’t help but cheer her on for – cause hey – let go of the past.
Kelsey and Liza have a walk home and they share a heart to heart. Kelsey is relieved that her fiance is dead, because she didn’t want to marry him. Our heart breaks – cause it’s some complicated shit. See, Thad was a creep – but that is what it is. Kelsey should have had more faith in herself and broken up with him long ago.
The next day at the office, Charles is visibly hurt. He’s kinda developed a case of being a jerk. Understandably so though, he was stood up. Liza’s heart breaks as he tells her it was just a kiss and it’s all good.
The thing is – Charles has every right to be mad, but seeing his heartache makes us only question are we Team Charles or Team Josh? This season of Younger is where we have a feeling we will find out.
