While it was a forgone conclusion that Netflix would bring more of the Baudelaires’ unfortunate lives to our small screens, it feels pretty good (or bad, if Lemony Snicket were to tell you) that Netflix has officially renewed A Series of Unfortunate Events for season 2.
The announcement came via this mysterious video…

That held a coded message that led us to this website…

And revealed this letter…
Which revealed the lucky (or unfortunate) news that Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire would be returning for a second season of more treachery at the hands of Count Olaf.
The second season of A Series of Unfortunate Events will cover the next five books: The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, and The Carnivorous Carnival.
“The second season is laid out to be 10 episodes for the next five books, so it ends on The Carnivorous Carnival, and the third season would be the rest of it,” Daniel Handler said in an interview with EW.
There’s no word as to when production will begin on the sophomore season (although the letter hints that people are already “snapping into action” on season 2), but history says that we can expect season 2 around December 2017 or January 2018.
