If you talk to my friends or anyone who knows me – they will tell you that I am a wanna be cynic, but that I believe in love. Maybe I do, maybe I don’t. What I do know is that I have always found love to be something that exists in movies and books, but in real life, it’s a lot harder than it seems.
For the past few – 7 to be exact – weeks, I have been in bed, sick as a dog recovering from weight loss surgery. Books have been hard to read, because keeping my focus, believing in anything, has been a hard road.
It’s been a road that I have barely made it through. I have opened books, given them a read, and then put them down halfway through because they just haven’t been what I was looking for. They haven’t been what I needed to read.
Maybe I will pick them back up, who knows. But one book that I didn’t put down was Jennifer Probst’s, all or nothing at all. Now I have long had a love affair with Jennifer Probst’s books. She gives us everything in her books – fantasy, love, hardship, rich, poor -she doesn’t mess around.
Her Billionaire Builders series has always been one of my favorites. I was supposed to have this review up a few weeks ago and I apologize for my lateness. It doesn’t take away from my love of the book. In all honesty, during my time down, I have read this twice and loved it both times.
Tristan Pierce left the family business to carve out a life of his own, but never forgot his passionate affair with the much younger, inexperienced Sydney Green, or the hurtful break-up that tore him apart. This book was my favorite book in the series. It absolutely touched my heart and made me cry and smile and laugh.
First thing that you should know about Probst’s books is that there isn’t just this easy insta love. Nope, she shows us that it’s a journey. A road that you need to travel, a road that you sometimes will have a hard time traveling, but when you get there – when you fall, when you allow yourself that vulnerability, it’s a beautiful thing.
It’s a heart warming thing.
Now, I think that we’ve all (hopefully) experienced love. I know that I have. Sometimes when you fall in love, it doesn’t last. But it doesn’t mean that love fades. Sydney has loved Tristan her whole life, but she also loved him enough to let him go. She let him leave to go off to New York to pursue his career.
Only there are secrets. She kept a secret that like – I am not okay with. I get letting someone go, but I am also not okay with some secrets that a person keeps. For me – Sydney’s secret was a really shitty one to keep.
When Tristan returns home from New York, there of course is a lot of tension. See, sometimes letting go comes with resentment. Sometime returning home comes with a flood of emotions that never went away. The issues between the two make it for drama, which keeps you captivated from beginning to end.
Tristan knows he’s made his mistakes. He’s grown. He’s learned his regret and he’s determined to show Sydney how much he loves her and wants to be with her. But with secrets and pain – will both find their way to forgiveness and back into each others arms?
Probst is a master at tugging at your heart and hitting you in the feels. Her characters aren’t perfect, they have issues, they have damage. But what she does in all or nothing at all, the way she crafts the words, bridges the past to the present flawlessly, leaving you wanting more.
Probst can tug at my romance heart anytime. Her books always make me think twice about love not being something to believe in.
