Look, we get it. We do. J.J Abrams did an amazing job with The Force Awakens. We’re all big fans. But Disney had a chance here, a chance to take a real step forward, a chance to make a difference, to give this job to a woman, or a POC director/writer, and ….well, they blew it.
StarWars.com reported today that Abrams would return to write and direct the last chapter in the new trilogy. Chris Terrio will co-write the film with him. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
And, to be honest, so are we. We really, really are. It’s just that we’re a bit sad too. Conflicted. And that’s perfectly okay. It is. Asking for your favorite things to give you more, to be better, is not a bad thing.
